|
 |
just like the title says.
my comp just crashed and I had some hyroglyphic shit on my bootscreen and my windows colors turned into 16bit colors and it didn't detect my GPU.
I plugged the gtx 285 into the 2nd PCI-E slot and it works now. I'll try the first slot again ... I guess it's my fuckin new mainboard (Asus P8P67)

Reinstall the graphics drivers, just in case.
Plug the graphics card in the initial slot again. If the problem occurs again, then it's a fucked-up slot.

what could the graphics driver probably have to do with the bootscreen? if the first slot isn't working anymore, exchange your mainboard. btw don't spill anymore beer on your computer

Strangely enough, I thought of the Windows Welcome screen and not the boot screen which is displayed at the very start of the computer.

Had the same problem with my work notebook. Rebooted 3 times, each time fucked up colors, booted a 4th time and first thing I did was backup the system and then I brought it back to the service center and they sent me a new one

Most probably something didn't sit real tight in it's place and is fixed now
But maybe there is a smally tiny miny crack somewhere which will ultimately fry all your computer and void any warranty

RMA. Nothing else to do, however.
Use the second slot for a day or two just to see if the problem will occur here as well. If not, then the x16 one is damaged.

Hmm, could it be something related to the graphics card? That the card itself is the culprit? Do you have a second card in the offing? Just to test and see if it's really the motherboard ...

I don't have a 2nd gpu here... but I'm pretty sure it's the mainboard

You probably have to bake your card.... just remove all plastic and screws and whatever you can find and put it in the oven. Look on youtube for tutorials.
Empty again

My 8800GTX died like that. I bet that its your GPU that is causing that shit.

But I registered my card when I bought in 2009 on the EVGA page...I hope I can use their 10 year warranty thing.

Yes you can, and EVGA are pretty good when it comes to warranty as well. Your issue might be either, but it's fairly easy to find out if it's the motherboard. Is ANYTHING else malfunctioning? Corrupt data on hard drives, blue screens or anything? If so, it'll be the board more likely; as soon as the PCI-e goes, the SATA controller usually goes with it, and often the memory controller as well.
@ Lathieza/Breezer: did NVIDIA still use the shitty stuff they used on the G80 and G92? If they did, that has FAIL written all over it, because that was the only bad thing about G80/G92 :/

It's most probably 640x480 @ 4bit (if 16 colors) or 8bit (if 256 colors)

It will be a tough 30 days without a decent GPU.
At least for me it was.

Good luck Kuro, I had a very similar problem with my old 8800gtx, hopefully it was still in warranty (by a hair) and got the 4870 1GB
