Anyone have any experience with them?

Let's say there was this deal for an hour

OCZSSD2-1AGT250G x 2 for $200 ( Agility 250GB)
OCZSSD2-1VTXLE100G x 3 for 50$ ( Vertex Limited Edition 100GB)

and fuck me, I bought just to resell them on ebay or some other place but I'm reading right now about them and they are hit or miss. Many people report so many problems with them

Right now, I am rocking A-Data 120GB.

Once I get those SSD. I was thinking about doing Raid 0 with OCZ 100GB SSD and just sell the remaining including A-Data I use right now.

But question is was it price mistake? Or they are just so shit that noone wants to buy them? Hopefully I will be able to make some quick buck or else I'm stuck with 400$ worth of SSD's Razz

Oh, they're first-generation OCZ drives. Slow. Are they used? Life-expectancy may be rather low on them. Check OCZ's site if there are firmware updates that apply.

Brand new. I think they also come with 3yr warranty.

Well According to Newegg for
Agility - Sequential Access - Read up to 230MB/s, Sequential Access - Write up to 135MB/s
Vertex LE - Sequential Access - Read up to 270MB/s, Sequential Access - Write up to 250Mb/s
and my current SSD
A-DATA AS599S-128GM-C Sequential Access - Read up to 280MB/s, Sequential Access - Write up to 270Mb/s

I guess only thing missing on Agility is TRIM support?
And also I heard there is no TRIM support on Raid 0 Confused Confused

Oh, VertexLE. They're almost as fast as Vertex2's.

And you paid $50?!?!??!?! That's a SWEET price, esp. if brand new.

I was thinking of buyin an SSD for the OS and some games and applz..saw this one for 284,38€:

OCZ Vertex 2.5" 180GB SATA ( Read: 285Mb/s , Write: 275Mb/s )

i've seen it's...2.5"....yet it's being used for Desktop PCs..how can you put that little HDD into a huge case?,it would be rumbling the hell out on the other HDD i have! (Western Digital 1TB Caviar Blue 7200RPM...)

if i get this SSD one it would be for XP mainly (no partitions to 7 due to gaming/applz reasons) and use the other HDD as backup for stuff or Windows 7 if there's no other choice

Thing is...Worth the buy or wait?..Is there something i should know before installing the SSD in my tower or install stuff in it?..dunno,drivers or connections *shrugs*..my PC's BIOS' set to IDE btw.

Thx in advance...

You get a bracket to put it into a 3.5" slot mate.

And you don't want to run XP off an SSD, as it doesn't have TRIM. No, there's no but's or what-if's here, you'll need to run Windows 7. Also, BIOS needs to be set to AHCI, and if you've got an Intel platform you'll want MS's drivers rather than Intel's for your chipset.

TRIM?

I've seen people load Windows XP in a matter of 20 secs like (from pushing the power button to the desktop all loaded with lots of programs),so i dont know why it's wrong with that óo;... (Proof: and many others)

I've got that AHCI in my BIOS..gave it a lil try and after restart there was no XP Logo but a reboot..maybe it's because my HDD (mentioned before) is not AHCI compatible?..anyways,back to IDE config and there it goes again (like..now grinhurt)

If you've read my signature,i dont own an Intel board (BLEEEEEEEEEEARGH!)...i own a 3 year old like ASUS P5K Deluxe WiFi AP...thou was thinking of getting a new P8P67 board with Sandy Bridge Core i5 2400,but my PC's already enough for what i need ...that's why i'm lookin for load speed instead of wasting money for not getting any load performance or anything

The thing is...if AHCI's enabled and want to use my other HDD as a backup or storage only...how would the BIOS config would work?,coz i dont wanna go messing with the BIOS here n there!!..

(sorry for my language...ssspanish here)

PS; The reason i use XP is because some games and software CANNOT be played/installed in Windows 7 or plays worse (Team Fortress 2),even with my actual rig...

Without it, your SSD will get slow as hell in no-time, which is why it's so baffling that Apple ships Macbooks with SSDs but doesn't even support TRIM in their OS, but does some proprietary crap once again :/

My Windows 7 boots in under 20 seconds just the same, your point being? I honestly don't get why anyone wants to stay on that piece of shit XP >_<
Even on my E8400 I never got less than 60 FPS in a source game under 7 (and even Vista for that matter), so TF2 should really be no different, unless you're one of the retards who NEEDS more than 60 FPS (VSync).

For AHCI to work you need to install Windows while it's turned on, because it needs different drivers. It's doable afterwards, but it's a fuckload of work.

I said Intel platform, not Intel board. You DO have an Intel platform, you've got an Intel CPU don't you?

Nonsense. Windows 7's compatability mode works pretty well (much better than xp's or vista's), and TF2 doesn't need it. Tested it last week, and it capped at 60 like it should. I can make an uncapped screenshot for you tomorrow if you want, but if you got issues under 7, I'd look at your bios. Most likely an issue between that and 7, triggering speedstep or something.

The new taskbar, much better layout of some options and most importantly performance. My old Thinkpad T42 (RIP Sad) lasted longer on the battery under 7 than it did under XP; and that had just 768 MB of RAM (had to trick the installer to even get it to install). At that point it was already 4 years old so go figure Smile
Hardware support is also important, there's rarely a need to install a driver for any device, in 99% of all cases the driver will be available on Windows Update. In the case of printers for example, you actually get the full software from WU, no need for any discs or anything. For videocards you'll want to get the packages from NVIDIA/AMD, but other than that there's not much need. It automatically installs the software for my X-Fi, the only thing it doesn't install is Logitech Setpoint Razz

I'm the wrong person to ask though, as far as I'm concerned Windows 7 is the best version of Windows MS have ever produced, with the exception of Win2K. 3.x were useless, because the good stuff ran in DOS anyway; 95 was too unstable, and while 98 (SE mostly) fixed that, it still sucked compared to Win2K. Windows XP then took that brilliant kernel in Win2K and completely and utterly destroyed it. Before SP2 it was barely usable on most of the systems I tried it on, and that's why I have such a profound hate for that fucking piece of shit OS. It's funny how many people (including IT "professionals") who slagged it off for being "too resource consuming", "slow" and "unstable" said the same shit about Vista, calling XP the best version ever. An OS that requires a Service Pack to be usable even on systems that were designed for it, and another SP to make it usable broadly - total taking 3 years to make it a solid, stable OS, is NOT a good OS.

Relatively speaking, 7 compared to XP is nowhere near as consuming as XP was compared to 98. If you've got a graphics card that can run games now, Aero won't be a problem either (or you can disable that, I haven't though). What 7 does do, is allocate more memory when you've got more, as a cache. It may seem to be using more memory than XP, but unlike XP, it actually does something useful with it.

XIII works fine, just need to run the setup in compatability mode and rename it a couple times. I've done that myself, and it works just fine Smile

Fahrenheit I don't know, and lol @ ProPinball Razz

Suit yourself, I just know that every time I'm on an XP PC now, I get annoyed shitless, and I'm glad none of the computers in my house run on it anymore.

ProPinball works just fine under Win7 x64. Smile

Still if you use an SSD on IDE mode there's a high chance for the SSD to die easily ..no matter XP or 7..and if using AHCI on 7 (or XP iwth the patch) there's less chances for the SSD to die easily...yet they dont last long (4-6 months on neweggg.com )

*sigh*

Under XP your SSD will simply wear out ten times as fast because that shit OS doesn't support TRIM, nor will it ever.

IDE or AHCI makes 0 difference for the lifespan, only for the speed.
