This article is worth a read, I post it in the PC games arena, because frankly, I don't see console users (much like facebook whores) caring much about, or even knowing the notion of privacy. This data mining by Sony should be very illegal. I hope they end up with a class action lawsuit on their hands, they deserve it.

I know Google mines data illegally as well, and I also hope they will too end up with *another* lawsuit on their hands.

hide yo kids, hide yo wife

class action lawsuit..those are always fun...handful of people will get few millions, lawyers willl get 10 times as much and rest of the folks will get a congratulation letter on winning the lawsuit and go back to their daily routine...

in 2009, I got an email "Notice of class settlement" ,,didnt even knew I was a part of it?

9 million went to charities and I wonder how much lawyers collected which was probably done with tax payers money

At least Steam asks you every time before you submit your hardware & software info.
(However the games do not, but I don't care if Valve knows how easy I die Razz)

Google doesn't store their shit in plain text. Google checkout, Paypal and all them payment things don't store CC details in plain text.

None of the websites I've built store any of that information in plain text. If someone got hold of one of those DB's, in most cases (except for some very small websites) they wouldn't even be able to get the users' email addresses, because they're stored somewhere else. Anything that doesn't have to be displayed as-is back to the user gets hashed, often multiple times through different algorithms so that even a dictionary lookup is pretty much impossible.

Also, in the case of Google, pretty much everything they "mine" is something you could've read about in the service agreements. Recording an IP address does not classify as far as I'm concerned, because it is not your property; and if that's illegal, then let's start sueing governments, because I'm sure each government site collects IP data as well Wink

Just terrible on Sony's side Smile

Wasn't surprised at all after hearing about Sony's "advanced" protection techniques.

Random number is random. But only if it's a 4 all the time Very Happy

Not really a good way to start a thread and I thought a superior being like a PC user would know this lol wut

Anyway, why do we need another thread for this PSN stuff, isn't one enough?
