Sorry, can't think of anything else.

Peggle?
Otherwise, any old NFS game? Those can be played one handed even just with a keyboard.

Any casual games that can support driving wheel (Wii has one?) seem like the best choice. So I guess Mario Kart?

Obviously "simple/minimalistic" games like Angry Birds and such...
Also try some free Indie games like Bit.Trip Runner and such...
What about MarioKart-like games like BangBangRacing or F1 Race Stars?
There is so so many enjoyable and safe games suitable for kids... |
The lego games? They need some combination work and team work... Yes you might have infinite lives and so on, but you WILL get stuck if you can't solve the puzzles
Edit: The diner dash game series?

Maybe Minecraft. I have a co-worker whose son is 6 years old, doesn't speak English and can't read properly and he still has a lot of fun with Minecraft.

Honestly, most games now that are rated teen or even mature can be played by 8-10 year olds. I have two nephews at that age they can kick ass at Call of Duty.

+1.
Also, the best way to start learning English is playing games in English...
