Awesome. I was aware of some of those, but not most.

jesus christ, eve online is just like real life.. backstabbing, corporate espionage, assasinations, etc.

remember reading about that assasination a while ago, tho i imagine it wasn't like Assasins Creed or Splinter Cell.. in space lol wut

anyway, that's nothing, World of Darkness Online will focus on clothes and shit (like EVE is doing right now), if anyone read the recent scan from some gaming magazine you'll know what i'm talking about

Quote:
CCP hasn’t been making Eve players terribly happy of late, first by introducing microtransaction vanity items broadly perceived as being about as affordable as Ferrero Rocher made of real gold, then by suffering a leak of an internal discussion about how to make even more from microtransactoins, and most recently by a blog from their senior producer which tried to wave away these issues with some rather peculiar arguments. In the wake of a fan uproar, they’ve now held up their hands and admitted to making a bit of a boo-boo

Reading the EVE ones.
And still people wonder why I don't play EVE?
If I wanna get into some sort of business I'd do that in real life for christ's sake.

edit:
Though I have to admit the heist / assassination in EVE sounds epic as all hell.

yep, it's kinda cool to think that some people thought and actually did this, took the time and had patience to pull off something like that, interesting yet somehow appalling at the same time

Now that I think about it. If I hired them to kill that dude I'm pretty sure I wouldn't tolerate having to wait for a whole year for them to do the deed.
I'd have probably told them to go to hell after a couple of months. I'm not paying assassins and then wait a year. That's ridiculous in it's own weird way.

you forget that they took down a megacorp in the process, so a year for planning an elaborate hit and gaining enough trust and company positions to do it that way is actually pretty short.
if you just want someone dead (or rather, his corpse) who isn't sitting in the station all day (and thus untouchable), in a WH or in deep alliance space (difficult, but still doable), you simply run a locator service on him (matter of minutes), get a scan hit on him (matter of minutes) and roll in the ganksquad, job done Laughing

Hahaha the EVE ones are especially golden! They cry first why MMO games are not really capitalist, then they cry when they get owned by witty capitalists. Laughing

The way I read is is they were paid for the hit and not for bringing the corporation down.
Sooo meh to that. If it, in fact, was part of the original contract to bring the corp down, forget everything I said.
But since I don't play EVE (and don't really read anything about it) I make my assumptions based on what I read in the article.

@reklis: if they were just after the kill, they would have just done it in the minimal amount of time and no one would have ever heard of it. but obviously they wanted to make it kinda special, which resulted, if you would for example place it in the star wars universe, killing darth vader's escape capsule after shooting down his unique, pimped out star destroyer while stripping the death star clean of anything valuable Laughing

that's what made this heist so great...not just simply finishing a contract, but overdoing it in such a such disproportionate epic way Wink

The biggest "dick" move I see here is the one from Sony, shutting down the server after the "unkillable" boss was taken down to 22% health. That's a dick move. Typical Sony. Still, my favourite one - now and forever - is the Blood Plague. I showed it to my missus and she was practically wetting herself from laughter, she really enjoyed THAT one Very Happy

... that and Richard Garriot getting twatted on his own server, then having a full-scale riot breaking out Very Happy

The Everquest one just shows that Sony underestimated it's player base.
Of course it was a dick move but let's just assume they would have succeeded in killing it.
Probably nothing would have happened. I suspect the players wouldn't even have gotten any xp.
Then the players would have bitched like hell as well (though I think if Sony went 'well, we never thought this was gonna happen' people could potentially have understood it).
But yeah stupid, shitty move by Sony.
As if that was a first. Or the last for that matter.

Yet, despite it being their "first" MMO, they've pulled the same shit in every game since... They simply suck when it comes to MMOs. So yeah, I tend to believe they did it merely out of spite.

I agree the Sony one is the worst. I'm torn since I love EQ1 so much I "want" to have faith, but it's tough when they continually shit on their player-base.

While I wasn't condoning the hack on Sony, I do believe that Karma's a bitch.

I hate MMO's... but that was an interesting read. Shows you what interesting sociological experiments they can be! I remember reading about Lord British's assassination in PC Gamer Shocked Laughing

First rule of EVE Online is; you don't trust anyone! Trust is one of EVE's most sought after assets. Btw there were a lot of errors in the articles about EVE but I guess the most important parts were correct enough.
