Quote:
After spending almost twenty years trapped in the so-called Stasis rift anomaly, unaware of the passage of time, player reemerges into normal space to find Gemini and indeed everything he knew, had changed beyond recognition.
The Gateway stood as the entry point to the Gemini system, but events that took place two decades ago closed the wormhole and practically sealed the system off of the rest of the universe. The isolation and the appearance of countless anomalies enabled unforseen technological advancements.
Political intrigues, greed and lust for power have shaped the fate of Gemini and it is almost time for reckoning . . .
* Free-roaming space waiting to be explored.
* Vast and interesting Gemini star system, divided into more than fifty large sectors connected via entrances into hyperspace torrents, called T-Gates.
* Numerous space stations, asteroid mining bases, asteroid fields filled with ore to be mined, randomly appearing anomalies, random encounters with hostile pirates or vessels in distress, trade convoys, military patrols, nebulas and much more are all there to create a deep and immersive experience of a living star system.
* Deep and intriguing storyline filled with schemes and twists, drives the player further into the main plot.
* Numerous scripted side missions offer a brake from the main plot and give more insight into the setting of Starpoint Gemini.
* More than 300 Freelance missions can be found and taken on stations through Freelance commission.
* Intuitive and user-friendly interface.
* Diverse skill system offers more than 30 upgradeable vessel maneuvers.
* Increasing your rank leads to more options including the ability to purchase larger ship classes.
* Choose from many different perks to gain additional passive bonuses.
* Ships have special built in abilities, which makes even smaller ship classes very useful in fleet battles.
* Upgrade your ships with more than 300 ship systems ranging from weapons and energy shields to power cores and thrusters.
* Enlist additional experienced personnel for your ships to gain skill bonuses.
* Random global events will influence almost all aspects of the game world (like chance for pirate encounters or commodity prices). '
* A comprehensive "Captain's Log" will enable you to keep track of ongoing missions and events.

Yes yes,the voice acting is "bad",but it's alpha footage and to me it looks great.
*sigh* Another east Europe game. I'm with Epsi; tons of promise, great ideas, which will invariably fall short. Still; space SIM/RPGs are very rare, DO WANT!
I don't rate X3, to be honest. Great ideas - but the game is pretty much nothing more than a construct'em'up in space, all you do.. day friggin' in and day friggin' out, is build harvesters or solar power plants or trade stations and then set them to trade with each other or the galaxy. It's a goddamn snore-fest I much prefer X or X2.
EVE is great though, had tons of fun back when I used to play it - and I'm going to be getting back into it as soon as I've finished my house move and my UK trip.
... oh and of course in MY opinion, hence the smiley face Why the hell do people persist in saying "in your opinion"? For crying out loud, of course it's MY opinion - I'm the one that's saying it! I'm not stating YOUR opinion or anyone else's, just my own. I think Maddox said it best;
This one pisses me off just thinking about it. If you slit my throat right now you'd get shot in the eye with boiling blood. Any time you say something sucks around someone who disagrees, they try to validate their taste in shitty music/movies/clothing by reminding you that you still only speak for yourself, as if their opinions are in jeopardy of being monopolized by your own. Everyone already knows it's my opinion by virtue of the fact that I said it, no need to restate the obvious you dopey twat.
Will be watching this one, since I've always wanted a capital ship space sim / rpg kinda thing that isn't EVE, isn't X3, and isn't Dr. Derek Smart.
Such a shame Derek Smart's mouth and imagination is greater than his coding skills, because the Battlecruiser games had SO much potential - especially later in the series. Shame that they turned out to be buggy, incomprehensible messes
Game has been released, seems to be on Gamersgate only so far based on info from the official site but it'll likely appear on other sources like Impulse as well unless there's some exclusive deal or similar.
Uses SecuROM with activation and is roughly 1.61 GB in file size from what I can see, got it rather cheap compared to the usual as the prices and localizations are a bit overhauled so the UK variety had it for 140 something SEK compared to the Swedish variant at 250 something SEK which is a nice price reduction.
Unsure about anything like a "scene release" or what to call it but if the game is popular and starts spreading it'll probably happen, also recently acquired ARES which is unprotected but still hasn't seen a "release" as such, both look like they could be very neat and fun games.

Spoiler:
Nothing here but a few screenshots for those interested.
Will put up some proper info about Starpoint Gemini and screens and likewise once it's downloaded and installed, should go trough the Star Wolves games and other remaining titles some day as well but we'll see what happens.
(Quite a number of titles in this genre I've yet to play trough, Star Wolves trilogy, Space Rangers titles though I've started on that one at least, X series as well but not made much progress, Spaceforce, Evochron - still haven't done much there, Dark Horizon, Tarr, Tomorrow War, Parkan and Darkstar to name a few.)
EDIT: Would seem like ARES did actually get released by the group Theta though I can't confirm this.
EDIT: While I somewhat hope it's due to it's large resolution or a lot of pictures and similar the manual is a full 71 MB, this might be a rather complex title considering the times and the current trends of how to keep stuff simple and motivational.
(EDIT: 60 pages but large resolution pictures, JPG might have been a good choice.)
EDIT: Covers a variety of options, limited difficulty setting however (Easy, medium hard basically.) but I can't say much about the game just from that.
EDIT: FRAPS proved to be highly non-compatible and crashed the game (More like it froze the current frame.) when I tried to take a screen of the character menu, it's somewhat limited in terms of customization but you can choose a name and ship name if you prefer to alter the defaults plus choose a starting perk such as luck increasing your chances against certain criticals by 15%.) though you are stuck with the default portrait though it's not horrible or anything, overall the game also looks quite nice for a budget titled game and I see no issues with how it runs or performs minus this issue with fraps.

Very interesting, thought they only did Russian games though perhaps Starpoint Gemini has a local version as well, nice to see SecuROM gone at least and hopefully without any annoying "triggers" or what to best describe those possible issues as, though it's probably fine.
I just got trough the training area, main campaign as said above is a bit buggy at the moment but the sandbox mode works fine, only just started but so far it's a interesting strategy / space game, you're the captain of a ship and work as a freelance doing odd jobs and specific missions when asked so you'll have to earn money to upgrade/trade ships, buy systems, hire officers that can boost certain abilities and as you gain new ranks you also increase the amount of perks you have and gain better reputation when dealing with the various factions, controls are a bit clunky and the visuals are somewhat dated and so is the voice acting but it's actually fun and not as simple as I first thought what with how the ships have a variety of subsystems, personnel, harvesting and salvaging of wrecks and asteroids, different factions and stations to utilize to say trade with or do missions for, also has a dedicated campaign but I've not tried it yet as I mentioned.
Once it's patched it might be a rather fun little game.
EDIT: Ah right you can't go up or down either (As in say Star-Wolves) so it feels a bit "flat" at times during combat and the like, ai navigation is so-so as well so asteroids and similar requires some manual steering.
You can't dive or rise to say fly over objects or under them but have to go around as far as I've tested, this is common in many of these more strategic third person / isometric space games such as Space Rangers (Which includes a bit more than that though.) compared to full 3D simulators or combat fighters such as Evochron or X3.
Some titles do allow this however like Star-Wolves which I used in the example.
EDIT: Yes the depth is what I meant, was about to call it the X axis but that's it's name.
EDIT: During combat ships usually navigate around one another but you have to align shield locations and weapon systems to actually function properly during combat plus boost energy distribution or even start the combat / red alert mode first to raise shields and ready weapon systems initially.
(It's also feeling a bit turn-based what with the usually slower recharge speed for these systems plus maintaining repairs of non-critical subsystems like having the shields fail or such which takes time to fix.)
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
