Project Zomboid is a Zombie Survival RPG. I just snagged this when I saw the pirated copy uploaded on BCG, a game as epic sounding as this deserved a buy Very Happy Sadly, due to Google/PayPal issues on charging for unreleased products, the developer doesn't actually sell this game - rather he sells a cheap (£5) indie title that has the extra bonus of including Project Zomboid, with lifetime free updates too. I gotta say, after only 30 mins of playing, this game seems like it's going to be fucking ACE!

You guys wanted a true zombie survival title? Well it doesn't get much more survival horror than this. Hell, one of the beta testers ended up burning his safehouse down, killing his wife in the process while he hid in the bathtub, because he forgot to turn the COOKER OFF after making a meal! Shocked Very Happy Very Happy

My only complaint so far is the lack of a proper manual (without resorting to the Wiki) and the fact that I can't seem to find a way to change username or pass -- as the one they give you is clunky and meh.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Project Zomboid is a Zombie Survival RPG. Here are some of its planned features:
    *Retro-isometric style with plenty of zombie insides thrown in for good measure.
    *A massive city and the surrounding areas to traverse, explore and loot.
    *Open-ended sandbox world – survival is your only goal, and we’re sorry to tell you… you WILL die eventually.
    *Get infected. How will you spend your final days? Will you have a heroic moment of self-sacrifice, or end up chewing your best friend’s throat out?
    *Meet other survivors who you can join forces with, trade with, undertake missions for, or fight with for resources.
    *Loot, salvage, and build what you need to survive the apocalypse, from food and medical supplies, to weapons, even just booze to help get you through the nights.
    *Advanced item crafting allows you to use looted items to build weapons, traps, defenses, and many other things to help you survive.
    *Character progression. Learn skills and perks to help your character face the challenges of survival.
    *Starvation, illness, loneliness, depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, suicide, insanity, trust issues. There’s more to zombie survival than shooting zombie heads off.
    *Join your friends and survive the apocalypse together in co-op multiplayer.
    *The world changes the longer you survive; power plants fail, plunging the city into darkness and making batteries and tinned food prized commodities. The army rolls into the streets to perform ‘clean up operations’ and other gamechanging events occur the longer you survive.
    *Play in your browser, or stand-alone, on PC, Mac and Linux.
    *It will be released Minecraft style, where there will be continual updates adding new features, weapons, game-play and locations.
____And now for a wall of text blurb truly detailing the game____
Yup, bought this ages ago.
It will be absolutely amazing with the coop and proper healing systems. Your arm is bit? Choose between eventual zombification or amputation.
Yeah, I believe so. It was leaked on 4chan, apparently, then filtered down to other torrent sites.
@dezz
Man, you and JB seem to to be THE indie guys on this board Very Happy Every time I mention an indie game, you've either already got it - or it's on your watch list Very Happy
Heh, how could anyone miss a gem like this? Wink
I hope they manage to get coop in fairly soon, even the current tech demo would be amazing fun with some friends.
I've only just started playing (I'll admit, I'm not usually a huge fan of crafting.. which is the ONLY reason I've not bought Minecraft yet) but so far it's looking fabulous and if the developer can implement even HALF of what he's offering; this could be one of the very best zombie games I've ever seen. It's incredibly in-depth and the music is godly.
I actually feel a little guilty taking the "Buy Droids! for £5" offer.
I love the atmosphere they have in the game so far. You really feel desperate.
Also, the skip tutorial "button" is great, lmao.
Poor wife. I let all the zombies in my house and they ate my darling while I had myself barricaded inside the bathroom. Sad
I left a door open during the night by mistake, house was swarming with zombies so I ran downstairs, turned the oven on and burned the place to the ground.
Smothered my wife, bolted for the warehouse. "Aww yeah, with these 40+ planks they'll never get me."
Only to realize I don't have any food and starve on the second night.
Sounds very interesting but how much is in the game this far? I mean is there things to do and is it somewhat playable or is it just extremely early alpha?
Definitely a great game. Thing I don't understand is why the developer doesn't sell it separately. Like Minecraft, for instance. The game has a great potential.
Because of the issue with paypal and charging for an unfinished product? If you would take a look at the "games" you can buy to receive zomboid you'd realise it's just 3 different price tags for zombroid and the actual game you buy itself is just more of a joke
Ran out of wood to barricade myself with and then accidentally burnt down the house while sleeping. Where do you get more wood and can you even stop a fire? O.o
According to them:
To clarify. We felt we needed to provide these games immediately on point of purchase to stop Google and/or PayPal freezing our accounts over issues with us selling a game that was not yet released. This may or may not be necessary now, since we have something real now to give to customers on purchase. Then again Notch ran into trouble not long ago for these reasons, despite Minecraft’s obvious success. So we’re keeping the system in place. It’s also kinda fun to think that if PZ does well, Droids may be one of the best selling indie games of the year, one day!
More or less directly south from the starting house, there's a warehouse with plenty of wood and other goodies in it.
Don't think you can stop fires yet.
