well Americans deserve it
when you're house looks like this
and is made made of plywood and wood beams
and not like this - concrete and shit
u fuckin deserve that your houses be ripped apart by tornadoes. hell even when you punch that wall ... you make a hole.

Estonia... I have no idea what that country is about. Tell me more . As for the boring part, Holland is no different. Everything is always quiet and peaceful, no disasters, everything you could ever need is available. That's a good kind of boring of course

Yeah, on our cost houses are made out of stone, like 10 tornadoes couldn't move that shit, you should do what the Japanese do in areas that are prone to tornadoes, or earthquakes, build houses that won't blow away.

When F5 tornado goes through your town I really doubt that even brick/ stone house would remain still...
That's why they build their houses out of plywood. They know that there is a possibility that tornado would pass through, so it's probably cheaper this way...

Didn't know Americans were so poor
Also because they use wood they have termite problems which can turn into a real nightmare, little bugs can eat your entire house down, some African termites are especially nasty.

Perhaps it is more a cultural thing. Btw wood is not cheap. I dunno the suction force of a F5 tornado but when a house gets demolished it starts with the roof. The roof gets sucked away and then the twister has free play with the wooden walls, furniture etc. The stone structure above will prolly lose its roof but the walls will stay.

When you can get a house under 100.000 there must be something wrong. Contrary to el derpo I don't think that you deserve it. It is just expectable.
Ofc I don't know how strong your tornadoes where and if a house made out of cement would've had the same flaws...

No amount of anything is going to stop the roof from being ripped off the house.
And we are talking about F5 tornadoes here, not high winds. If there were actually huge tornadoes in Europe your old brick buildings wouldn't do that much better.

Hey mate - hope all is ok for you. I'm sorry for all those who struggle through these things with so much loss. Too many in the world complain bitterly about their daily grind and pretty inane shit that simply doesn't suit them. Disasters like this are where the real grief is.
Good Luck.

Sorry to hear it, but I also never understood why build wooden houses when you are at risk of tornadoes.
It's not economical reasons for sure because wood is really not that much less expensive than a brick and some concrete. Plus if my country can build them out of bricks, you americans sure have the money for that as well. Aside from being at risk at tornadoes you also get mouse/roach infestations in the walls and even a small flame can cause the whole place to go up in minutes.
If a tornado did hit, the roof would probably go out first, even on a brick house, but if you make a brick ceiling it wont tear it down. At most you will have to rebuild the roof, and possible fix a hole or two (likely not even that).

Again, brick isn't as strong as you are suggesting it is. The only way you'd be able to build a F5 tornado proof house is making a fucking concrete bunker. Anything else will be eaten alive.
And mouse/termite infestatations will only happen in very old wood. Any wood used in building is treated, and termites refuse to eat it, and a mouse ain't gnawing through that stuff either.
In North America wood is a hell of a lot cheaper then brick. We also use gypsum boards (drywall) on a much greater frequency here due to the fact that it is also very cheap. You use what natural resources are available. In the end, we have a lot more lumber available due to how huge the country is.
