I'm going to play these chronologically, but I'm wondering if Shattered Dreams, the remake or "reimagining" of the first, is the same. Does it follow the same story and everything, or am I better off just playing with PSX visuals?
you mean the wii game? that one is not even remotely like SH1...more like a combination of (half-assed) psychological profiling (which changes the game a bit) and running away from "monsters". i didn't complete it, but the story was different too
Yeah in Shattered Memories you are only running away from the monsters while you are fighting them in the PSX game. If you can live with PSX visuals play the original game! It's the original vision of the original developer after all.

Thanks
1. Shattered Dreams is NOT Silent Hill 1... the only thing here is SH1 presented the story from the Point of View of the father [Harry Mason] and SH:SD presents the story from the Point of view of... Heather the daughter of Harry Mason that vanished [its a big fucking story ending twist ]
2. Shattered Dreams ps2 version is HORRID and gimped , compared to the WII version [to understand how awful port it is i must... hmm have you played Resident Evil 4 ? ...the NGC version had better textures and all cut-scenes where rendered in real time on the game engine when, the PS2 version had low res low quality textures and all cut-scenes where low resolution mpeg movies, same here... WII has better textures and all cut-scenes are rendered real time on the engine , when on the PS2 all cut-scenes are mpeg movies rendered with EVEN LOWER quality details ... and yes you can even play the PS2 version on PC with PCSX2 r4460] ... i recommend to play it on the WII or in the WII emulator Dolphin , it works perfectly in 1080p on PC with smooth 60fps
3. replay the first part SH1 on PC [there is a FAN made version on TPB , PSone version with a rebuild emulator to work as a one click plug and play exe... sh1 on 1080p with fan hd textures anyone , it looks like a game from 2005 with those]
Dunno where i have it on my hdd so no screens
4. SH 2 should be played on the PC,why? its the only version thats full and complete with 'BORN FROM A WISH' special sub-story
5. same could be said about SH3 play it on PC [and you play as Heather Manson], not only it has some wonderful ULTRA textures but you had to have 2gig of ram to play in render mode 4096x4096 !!! 2gig ram in 2003 was a OVERKILL but today you can enjoy some ultra sharp textures
6. "SH4 The room" you can skip it same with SH6 [aka Homecoming]... but SH4 had some of the most WTF SCARY moments in gaming history !!! but it was more a action horror game then a survival horror [it was a game about some kid that killed himself in his room in the Building OWNED by Harry Mason and his soul is trapped in SH story line]
7. to start the SH expirence , first you have to play "Silent Hill 5 : Origins" on the PS2 !!! , yes it works fine on PCSX2 r4460 finished it ... yesterday
then SH1 , then SH2 , then SH3 ... then the Wii SH :Shattered Memories then SH4 The Room and then SH 6 : Homecoming
dunno why, but i hated the 3rd game. Thought they slaughtered the experience by making us run around 1000 enemies in the start. Not the right way to set a creepy and erie atmosphere.
the ending of SH :Shattered Memories makes it fit chronologically like this
1.SH5 : Origins
2.SH:Shattered Memories
3.SH1
4.SH2 <=> SH4 the room
.
.
. 4.12/123131 SH6 Homecoming
.
.
.4.4131/123131 SH7 new game DOWNPOUR
.
.
5.SH3 [why its here , well SH3 kills the town of SH]
@kenny64
SH3 was a PERFECT game , not only it has 3 levels of combat {C} difficultly but also 3 levels of puzzle {P} difficultly
on level C1 and P1 you played a DERP GAME no locked doors , no puzzles , no ENEMIES , did i say godmode and regenerative health only few switches here and there ...you could complete this game on this level in 3h!!
on level C2 shit JUST GOT REAL no regenerative health , you could bleed , max 3 enemies on the screen , more ammo , more weapons [bazookas , uzis , m16 ,ect..]... on P2 doors need keys , puzzles with items , music puzzles .... 20h you need MIN to complete on this
on level C3 did i say ULTRA HELL SHIT HARD thats right , you die in one hit , ammo whats that ? there is no ammo only like 10 rounds for the whole game max 9-10 enemies on the screen ... P3 you got to be kidding me hidden doors , kill enemies for keys , complicated puzzles [decrypt a 12 verse poem ,that is made from Shakespeare plays then knowing what play is first , rearrange the books in that order (you MUST FIRST FIND THOSE BOOKS) the very first puzzle LIKE 25 min in game on this level , no thats ULTRA HARD ] did i say on this level some rooms doors have numeric keypads and each number is a puzzle [cryptology , guessing a bright day that was in some notes that you must find first , crossword puzzles , sudoku (yes on P3 you have to solve a ultra hard sudoku to get a door pad number to open a door LULZ )]... you need 2 months to finish it on that level ,not kidding , not only the combat is hard but puzzles are ultra bizarre hard
Kkenny64 dunno on what difficulty you have played it [sound to me that it was C2P1] but try playing it on C1
Why did i play on those difficulties , well not only SH3 is every time different but you see NEW rooms and see new endings !!! like UFO ENDING
4. SH 2 should be played on the PC,why? its the only version thats full and complete with 'BORN FROM A WISH' special sub-story
I agree it should be played on a PC, but didnt the Xbox version also have 'Born from a wish' and all the other extra's?

I saw things like that in here and in other "woman problems" topics so...... Am I the only one that thinks some authorities needs to be alerted about Saner and him possibly being a rapist and/or kidnapper ?
Saner is not being serious. Unless its the subject of Santa!
I started with getting Origins + Shattered Dreams for PCSX2 but my portable gaming machine cannot handle it (prefer to leave the big games for PC gaming time) so I got them both on PSP.
As Shattered Memories seems to be the lesser version of SH1, I guess I'll be hunting the PSX version and PSP'ing that too, unless I can find the 1080p version mentioned, that sounds great.
The rest seem to run fine as PC versions when they're not emulated which is excellent.
I LOVE (the old) Resident Evil games but I never got into these, just never had enough money as a kid for both. Seems to be a lot freakier.
Shattered Memories really isn't a "remake" or a "re-imagining" of anything, regardless of what the devs said in interviews. If anything, it's a direct sequel to one of Silent Hill 1's alternate endings. I actually liked it a lot better than Silent Hill 1 too. Story was great in my opinion (I got a bit misty eyed at the end), and I liked how it didn't have the stupid cult stuff in it. And Silent Hill 2 is the best game in the series, it MUST be experienced in PCSX2.
Bios files and the US Uncensored [with repack textures] Iso are in that pack just copy them over and forget about that Custom emulator if it doesn't work for you [you only will be forced to manual set the drive , game resolution and texture resolution in the menu] ...hmm strange it worked fine on my PC ... will check it and post back

Shattered Memories I think is one of (if not) the best game on Wii. I thought the Silent hill serie had struggled on from part 3, but the Wii-version was great. It had the same good/creepy feeling as the first game. It's different then the other games though, but a part of the serie and bring something to the story too.
