This year's installment of the game, acclaimed as "the best sports game ever made" by most reviewers, was presented in this year's E3, although not much was given out. Most features that are new this year are yet to be announced, and all we know so far is that serious work has been done to further improve the already almost perfect presentation, with dynamic intros for every game and improvements to the general TV-like feel.
My thoughts and comments are in the Description above. In summary, I can't help but be excited for the new installment of the game I've already spent over 230 hours playing. If they can iron out the few bugs and not have us wait 6 months for a patch again, I think it'll be a great experience overall. The only thing that got tiring after having played almost 2 full associations (82 games, 12 min quarters) is that even the dynamic presentation got a little stale, and that it could be improved, so hearing them announce that first was a great thing.

In the NBA 2K12 demo, the NBA Finals logo is plastered over everything, and there's an added level of pomp and circumstance to the opening cinematic. The character rosters are moving full 3D models of the players. During the game little ads pop up on the bottom showing the rivalries of the teams, and making the game look like a TNT broadcast. The fans in the stage are wearing game shirts, showing their support with a sea of team colors. It's all a lot of fluff but it's the sort of fluff you would expect when watching the Finals on TV.
The TV presentation/quality of the cutscenes is probably the weakest aspect of this great series, since the gameplay is (almost) perfect, especially with mods. I don't expect any revolution, but I'm sure they won't disappoint..as always.
Every preview right now speaks of big changes for the presentation, and the fact that 2K has decided to focus on that on its demo presentation and only give that out, means that it will be the main selling factor.
Oh, and by the way, nobody mention "On The Move" in this thread. Really, don't. It's an abomination, it's only for PS3 anyway, and I don't fucking care.
@Leftos: I saw the video with Kobe Bryant during the E3, it was absolutely ridiculous. , and yeah, hopefully that stuff doesn't affect the quality of the game on PC since it's just a gimmick for derps.
@dsergei: there are some mods that rebalance gameplay/modify the database at the NBA Live Series Center, like this one:
Hard to imagine it's going to get better than 2k11, which had Jordan as a big plus.
Well, it is getting better every year. Keep the same gameplay, add more player-specific animations, make the presentation more dynamic, and there you go, perfect just got better.
Was Kobe playing 2k12 or 2k11 as I didn't see any difference although it might be because he sucked plus that ridiculous move thing.
We never talk about the "On The Move" mode. Never again. Consider this your final warning. Or I shall sacrifice virgins, gain superpowers from the devil, come to your house, and have tea with your daughter.
all the football/basketball games are the same, it is only a money pumps that working very well , they do very small changes every year and boom, product is out and all the fan's are in.
it's the same game with the same plastic look players with very few changes and don't get me wrong, it is fan as hell, but why should i buy every year the same product?
(i mean in general , not specific 2k games)
if they were more creative and thinking more of how to do new game and not to add more on the same, we could see amazing ball games like this, but it is all about the money today.

I've only played the NBA 2K franchise on the PC, and so far it's been 3 installments. NBA 2K9 I was impressed by and I bought, 2K10 brought too few changes and too many problems, but 2K11 with its dynamic commentary and its much more fluid gameplay gave me a whole new reason to buy it. And the hours I put into these games more than justify the price.
I mean, I played about 120 games on 2K9, which I bought for 30 euros. That's about 140 hours of gameplay, meaning 20 cents on the hour. Other "top" games give you like 20 hours of gameplay tops, no replayability, no reason to play them with friends, and charge you 50-60 euros for it. 2K10 I didn't put much into as it had far too many problems and I didn't have the time for it, so I'm glad I didn't buy it. 2K11 however is another story. I've already put 250 hours into it, bought it for 35 euros, so that's a mere 14 cents an hour.
Sure, other series like FIFA and PES (up to FIFA 10) just kept shodding the same thing year after year after year, and it didn't justify the money. But 2K Sports puts much effort into improving the game, and with the exception of some transitional years that the iteration was worse than the others, it never stops to amaze on how it can improve on the game. It already has great gameplay and can become amazing with some good sliders, great graphics, and they've already said they're improving on the presentation, which although was already worked on a lot (the overlays and the dynamic commentary are key points here), they're trying to make it as exciting and TV-like as possible.
Is 2K12 worth the money? On one hand, the NBA 2K series, just like any other sports franchise, has its good years, and bad years. So yes, it's too early to tell what kind of year this will be for 2K and if the money will be worth it, instead of staying with 2K11. But then again, 2K is a developer that has brought us time and time again a top quality basketball game, and it deserves our support. I'm not saying buy it just on those grounds. I'm saying keep it in mind. 2K12 improves on an almost-perfect platform that was left as a legacy from 2K11.
It'll be worth -my- money even if it's a 2K11 with all the bugs ironed out and with an even more dynamic presentation, even if they keep graphics and gameplay the same.

I think you posted this on the wrong topic, sounds like you're looking for an EA product you're way off as far as nba 2k is concerned.
actualy you are right but, during the years i lost my faith on this kind of games and it is true, i don't know 2k good enough to include them in my equation , but if they doing a good job, i am truly happy:)
@sabin1981
where the hell is this NBA jam?
i forgot about the pc version and when it first announced, i was excited about it, used to play it on the mega drive like crazy and now when you mention it, i wonder where is it?
thats an instant purchase for me without doubt right there. but im annoyed it need a friggin championship for one of the best PF's of the generation to get proper animations.
so yeah, anything else is a bonus.
EDIT: actually one thing that always bothered me about this series, is that when you are top tier team, against someone like the raptors, the game is never noticably easier. even with amazing matchups its hard to feel that advantage.
basically i want them to really make bad matchups pay.
