Dead Space Extraction

  • Official web page: LINK
  • Developer: EA Redwood Shores
  • Publisher: Electronic Arts
  • Genre: Rail shooter
  • Release date: Q3 2009
  • Story/Description:
    Quote:
Built from the ground up and developed exclusively for the Wiiโ„ข, Dead Space Extraction is a prequel that reveals the events leading up to Isaac Clarkeโ€™s mission on the USG Ishimura in the original Dead Space game released in 2008. Dead Space Extraction will marry the innovative motion controls of the Wii Remote with a frenetic first person perspective to create a new action-packed horror experience.

Dead Space Extraction tells the story of a handful of space colonists desperately struggling to escape from a horrific infection on the Aegis VII mining colony deep in the furthest regions of space. The game introduces a new heroine to the fiction and as the crew fall victim to a mysterious contagion aboard the ship, it becomes clear that protecting her may be their only hope for survival. Dead Space Extraction introduces all new characters, weapons, enemies, puzzles and co-operative multiplayer gameplay.

โ€œWe could not be more excited to extend Dead Space into an experience exclusive to the Wii. Nintendo has a wonderful history in the horror genre and we are thrilled to build on that tradition with Dead Space Extraction,โ€ said Glen Schofield, VP and General Manager of EA Redwood Shores studio. โ€œAs we were developing Dead Space, we realized that there was so much of the story going untold. Dead Space Extraction tells that story with all of the intensity, blood and gore that fans would expect.โ€

Dead Space Extraction, not yet rated, is an EA Redwood Shores title and is scheduled to ship in Fall 2009.

Looks very cool, and it being a on-rails shooter, it means it could be very scary. Smile

Well, past on-rails shooters have had coops (split screen or on the same screen), so this will probably be too. Smile

it's called FRANCHISE. and as long as they keep the quality high (the comics were great, movie wasn't animated that good, but still a nice intro to the game, main game was awesomeness itself and now they've even got the perfect scenario for a lightgun shooter!) they can milk this cow all day long Smile

It means basically that you don't control the path taken by the character, you just make sure he gets safe through the predefined route, by shooting at stuff. If you remember the old Time Crisis series from arcade, they were rail shooters.

yeah it's nothing like the old hotd1+2 (3 wasn't that good anyway). it has it's own new (grindhouse) style - trashy, but pure fun!

Since this game is part of EA's new "bring-core-games-to-Wii" initiative I don't think that a rail shooter is enough. There are already plenty of those on Wii and for me a rail shooter isn't really a core game anyway.

Why aren't they doing a true prequel with the old Dead Space gameplay everyone loves? I have to say I'm disappointed. I expected more than just another arcade game after their initial announcement.

@Jenni/everyone

If you liked Umbrella Chronicles (and let's face; who didn't? Stunning game) you'll be happy to know there's a "sequel" coming; Resident Evil: Darklight Chronicles.
