One that repair bad sectors ect. I think the drive on the laptop is FUBAR but i may as well try this as a last resort. Never messed with those apps before so i don't have any reference to a good app who can do this. Tried google but there are many and some look suspicious ect

I know but the drive is not totally dead or so it seems. Sometimes i can boot , sometimes i can even install windows but it crashes at random after that. I have nothing to lose by trying an app really. I knwo it probably won;t work but heh i'd rather still try all my options

Hiren's Boot CD has some proper HD tools that will fix and repair bad sectors (with real read/write surface scanning).

I've never used GRC's SpinRite, but I've rescued data from permanently crashed HD's with GetDataBackNTFS.

Good tool, as long as it's not a Samsung Spinpoint Razz

you better make an image of the HD before doing any scanning on it
anything you do will only damage it more

or if you meant you don't need to recover anything from the drive but to repair it for future use, then just forget it.
when it's physically damaged(like it sounds), it's only down hill from there and fast.
you can't fix physical damage.
get a new drive.

It either doesn't work on Spinpoints, or breaks them Wink
