This reminded me of Amiga, and how it was possible to start formatting a floppy, begin to copy files to it while its still formatting and keep using any other Workbench application Very Happy

You could put any system from the 80's next to that laptop, which is most likely under spec for the Vista beta it is running. I could grab an 80386 (which I probably still have lying around somewhere) and pull off the same bullshit running DOS :/

There's just no comparing today's OS's to those, they load a lot more services and functionality; just your hardware drivers alone are probably bigger than the whole OS back then. And especially if you're running off a mechanical drive, it won't matter if it's OS X, Linux or Windows, they're all going to be bottlenecked by that drive; just for fun Rofl_Mao, have a look at what your OS X has to load to boot. 90% of it won't make sense to you, yet those are all drivers for the tons of chips on your motherboard.

And then the "Mac vs. PC" thing, haha - do I need to make a video of a P3 (866 MHz/768 MB) booting Win7 versus a Powerbook G4 (1 GHz/1 GB) booting Leopard? I know which one will win that Very Happy

Yeah, real funny. Yawn.

Should I post a video of the Commodore 64 booting up in less than 1 second?

Mate, the Wll doesn't even have to boot to begin with. Surely that means your shitty C64 is nothing compared to that?

AmigaOS was years ahead of anything else around. True multitasking before Bill Gates knew how to beef up DOS and Apple had a monochrome unusable OS.

I think the same one all mac users have.

that they have no idea about the hardware running the system the OS is on..just that one OS is said to be better, and agree blindly. without finding out the stats or the benchmark basis of each machine to gauge the apple claims of "better" against. (or even knowing stats and benchmarks was words applied to hardware to start with..LOL)

can we do a mac from 1984 with a mac from 2007? and see which is faster? does that mean mac NOW makes crap because its older stuff is 'faster?"

Yeah well - it does boot pretty much instantly...however, You cannot do so much on the first screen as you can with a mac/amiga/pc.

However - I still concider c64 to be THE best computer ever. I bought a new one recently (got 4 now)

shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

I'm happy to have my PC boot up take ages, because if I had a mac i'd instantly become a fucking tosser.

A bit of boot time is a small price to pay.
