WOOOOOOOOOOO another reboot that isnt needed, but whatever, its happening, cant be stopped now...
C O N A N
Director:
... Marcus Nispel
Plot:
... The tale of Conan the Cimmerian and his adventures across the continent of Hyboria. (I mean shit, you all know the freakin story... )
well theyve finally picked their conan.
Spoiler: | |
Quote: | Well, finally. The world might not quite have been on tenterhooks waiting to find out who would claim the rebooted throne of Conan (and see their enemies driven before them and hear the blah blah etc), but for everyone who was invested: rejoice! We have a new Barbarian. His name? Jason Momoa.
Best known for his role as Ronon Dex in Stargate Atlantis, Momoa beat out the likes of Supernatural's Jared Padalecki and Twilight's Kellen Lutz for the part in Marcus Nispel's retooled version.
As we reported just yesterday, the casting choice, after a long struggle between at least five actors, had come down to those three. According to Deadline Hollywood, Momoa clinched it with an sword-wielding screen-test and a charm offensive at Lionsgate.
And in related Conan news, Latino Review has it that none other than Mickey Rourke has been sent an offer to play Conan's father, Corin. Hhhm… Can't say there's a massive resemblance, but that's for Marcus Nispel to worry about.
All being well, the new film should kick off shooting mid-March in Bulgaria, news which will be greeted with a massive sigh of relief from the producers who will finally get to see this thing move into production.

i mean lets face it... no matter who they were gonna pick, we'd have hated it... there is no replacement for arnie's conan...
but i gotta say... i like the choice. i like the actor, hes certainly better than one of those shitty fucks from twilight or some other shitty teen drama tv show...
the look isnt quite what id wanna go with, but the guys got the physical presence, hes got that brooding hulking shitty grumble grr grr grr mood that conan has, as youve seen in stargate, and ever since i saw his badass swordfight with the fuckin legendary mark dascascos, yeah, im happy with this choice... at least, as happy as one can be with a reboot being made at all...

No Arnold, no Conan.
This actor looks like gay pimp. Compare with:

They shouldn't touch anythng with Arnold in it. Arnold might not have been the greatest actor, but he did give his own twist to every one of his characters. Any movie with Arnold in it would be impossible to reboot.

reboots are all the rage today... far less work required if you just reuse an already made and suitably epic story and just tweak it a bit.
from the imdb faq (reliability ftw? )
Is this a remake of the Milius/Schwarzenegger movie?
EditHistoryDelete
No. A remake implies a new version of an original script. This movie has no connection to any previous Conan movies, it is a franchise restart, like "Batman Begins". It is a brand new adaptation of the original Conan stories by Robert E. Howard.

I've got all the books and novels (including a couple of combined cthulhu novels in the world of conan)...so I look forward to this one.
Sure, Arnold was perfect as Conan - but im just glad they do more fantasy movies so this is something I look forward too! (and with fantasy I mean more voilent onces rather than crappy H.Potter and other crap)

I bet my money that this will be a scorpion king a-like movie. So -> no blood and gore. The good times are gone, MAXIMUM profit for a short period of time is the new black.
If they'd just make a proper movie for adults they might be able to build up something big but they just do shitty remakes and count the money for their mediocre movies

Nothing with Arnold is campy. You must have watched the TV series and are confused.

Certainly better than the other two final candidates, had to google both since I'd never heard of them before... Doesn't exactly fill me with hope in regards to how the movie turns out if those babyfaces made it to final three.
Anyway, as long as Momoa loses the dreads, he could do fine. Not that he acted much on SGA, so we'll just have to wait and see about his acting. Looks-wise he wouldn't necessarily have to bulk up all that much either - in the original stories of R.E. Howard I don't think Conan was ever physically described as a musclemonster like Arnold was (granted, he was still stronger than other men).

You're not serious are you? Agreed that he was the baddest mofo in the universe for a while but he's made one bad career choice after another. Now he's just a poster boy for street-racing chavs. He even had to make the same mistake as Arnold and try comedy. Plus he would never be able to carry-off a long hair look.

swingman wrote: | You guys liked that campy piece of crap that much? That movie needs to be rebooted just to erase the memory of the original. Another film that deserves a re-make/reboot is 'Dune'. That was another nice story marred by the de Laurentiis brand of big budget, over the top decors which was more suited to the era/genre of 'Cleopatra' and 'The Ten Commandments'. The man was a throwback to the time film used to be called 'celluloid'. |
they did the Dune, but as a series...

as always with remakes: if they do it right, it can be awesome. But that is a big IF, judging from all the past mistakes the studios have made with remakes...

it depends on the intentions of the remake.
if the person driving it wants to remake it because he wants to do an awesome job, it can be kickass.
if its just a money making excercise, then you've got trouble.
oh btw... you all hear theyre going ahead with rebooting planet of the apes AGAIN?
