Pirate the game? Who is going to touch it in the first place?
Recettear has sold 140k copies.

I'm talking about the original, mind you, not this one. I've only just heard of this one -- but the first, a cross between a shop simulator and a dungeon-crawl hack'n'slash, is great.
Meh, will try it out when it comes out for the laughts and giggles ...

I liked Recettear (Or how it was spelled, mentioned a few posts up though.) but I never finished it properly (That last dungeon - after completing the game once - having 100 floors.) so it'll be interesting to see how this game is.
Japanese release could have been quite some time ago before this localization effort.
(JAST still localized titles from 2002 or so, haha though that's a odd comparison seeing the genre differences and target audience.)
releasing july 29th. But the trailer is from 4.5 years ago?
These games have been made years ago for the Japanese audiences.
They translated as an experiment Recettear hoping it'll sell 10k copies and it sold 140k and keeps selling. Now they know there's an audience for these games they'll keep bringing more (they have already announced 2 other titles, Fortune Summoners: http://lizsoft.jp/fs/game.shtm and one whose name hasn't been yet revealed).

Recettear was enjoyable, but I'm not interested on this one. Maybe next time with Fortune Summoners (Metroidvania 2D platformer) and Territoire (isometric turn based strategy).
DaggerXL: A The Elder Scrolls Chapter II: Daggerfall Engine Remake
I'm not allowed to give out exact unit numbers or dollar amounts (and I can't quite do the "across all platforms" thing yet because we're only on two so it's a little easy to figure out ), but I'll say this: now that we're at the "full day" mark that Chantelise has been available, in terms of dollar-sales amount, Chantelise has accomplished in 24 hours what Recettear took five days to do in its initial preorder period.
Now the sales pattern here is a bit different - immediate release versus a fairly long preorder period, slow burn exposure and getting noticed for the first time vs. riding the wave of our first success - and Chantelise's sales are slowing down somewhat now, but only somewhat. At the rate we're going I still expect that Chantelise will have managed to hit the "has 'justified' itself financially" mark by the end of today, when it only needed to do so by the end of the month. Everything after that is pure frickin' gravy - and it's looking like it'll be a LOT of "gravy".
Point is, it's wild success all over again and I'm basically doing backflips around my apartment and we've proven this whole thing is more than just a flash in the pan.

Quote:
- Hey, didn't another company put this game out in English? Why should I buy it from you?
DHM Interactive (website and company now defunct) did put out a multilingual version of the game in Europe. The non-French versions, however, left... a little to be desired quality-wise. And it was never released outside of Europe, and never on digidistro. When we pow-wowed with EGS concerning this game, we realized we'd have to step it up a little to make sure the game was worth it.
So, our version of Chantelise doesn't just have retranslated text. It has:
1) It has been completely re-fonted. The original release of Chantelise used a rather ugly system font to handle all in-game text. EGS went back and plugged in their new, scaling font that they developed for Recettear and Territoire into Chantelise, meaning the ingame text looks much, much nicer now.
2) It has full Xinput support. Previous releases of Chantelise (and of Recettear for that matter) didn't include "proper" full support for Xinput gamepads like the Xbox 360 controller or the PS3 controller using the MotionJoy drivers. CF's release of Chantelise features full support for all Xinput devices, including mappable triggers and using the right-hand joystick for additional camera control.
3) It has re-tuned bosses. Some of the boss encounters later in the full game suffered a bit because EGS, during the game's original development, wasn't able to do the bosses the justice they wanted to. Now that EGS is swimming in cash, this wasn't exactly an issue any longer. All bosses in the fourth and fifth (final) dungeons have been extensively redesigned and retuned to provide for a more compelling, interesting challenge.
4) It has that Carpe Fulgur Love. We've once again poured our souls into making a compelling English script that I hope everyone will enjoy, especially since Chantelise has a surprisingly twisty plot.
Spoiler:
And if there are any typos I swear we'll patch them out ASAP
In short, it was both our and EGS's intention to produce the definitive, end-all version of Chantelise. Even if you've played the game before, you'll get a different game this time.
