After an overwhelming response from PC gamers, Rebellion announce that they plan to self-fund a PC version of their upcoming sharpshooter sequel, Sniper Elite V2.
The shooter was originally destined for a console only release, now it will be coming to PC, and Rebellion say they’re determined to ensure that we won’t be getting a shoddy port. Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley has stated that the PC version “will be built specifically for PC to take advantage of the more flexible and powerful hardware, with strong support directly from Rebellion.”
Sniper Elite V2 is the sequel to the 2005 tactical shooter, which asked players to perform stealth missions based on the backdrop of World War 2. From what little we know so far, the sequel looks to be staying true to these roots, directly continuing the franchise in the same time period as before. There is no set release date for the sequel yet, but more information is expected in the months to come.
While initially the game will only be available as a digital download through Steam, Rebellion are currently looking for possible partners to put out a retail release.
So this means worthless DX11 and tessellation as in AvP?

I don't care about the usual DX11 gimmicks, just gimme a proper underped sequel and I'll be happy
I totally agree. If they just tighten the controls, and improve the textures a little I would be happy.

DX11 improved DoF (Similar to Juarez sort-of, not that crappy distant blur effect.) and shadows and AA implementation would be most welcome in a sniper game, multi-core performance increases and offloading the CPU otherwise even more so for advanced AI, quicker loading times and lag (Well good performance in general I mean.) and stutter free gameplay.
Just as to give some positive things.
(Deferred rendering DX9 locked GTA IV here as a example since it uses neither for reasons I can't say anything about - DX10 was certainly a possible choice countering some stuff like AA for example, more so for 10.1 and shadow improvements as another negative.)
EDIT: Parallax occlusion mapping, tessellation or whatever for uniform details and improvements and of course the bullet wounds and blood system (Apex and PhysX here would be even better but if over-used would limit it to NV only.) plus realistic faces, wrinkly Stalin due to age and say Hitler with eye-bags due to stress.
This could be an interesting first. Large developers taking an indie approach. Why let these smelly publishers dictate the rules, the industry would be better without them all.
Maybe if this works well then Volition will self fund Freespace 3.
First? Valve has gone 100% independent from publishers a long time ago. They self-fund, develop, publish, market all their games.. they just need a distributor (EA) to manufacture and ship the boxed copies.
And it has worked wonders both for the quality of their games and their $$$.

In fact, I will not pirate Sniper Elite V2 (unless it's so derpified it's not worth a penny) for various reasons..
Kudos to Rebellion for being cool cats by self-financing the PC-version (allegedly not a shitty port) because it cares what fans want instead of being 100% slaves to publishers.
This is so rare these days that it must be encouraged.
ps. I don't care if it's DX9, DX11 or OpenGL 3.2/4.1. As long as it creates the amazing feeling of being a spec ops sniper in war like the first one did I'll be a happy camper. I still replay Sniper Elite every now and then, and even though it looks dated it still gives me that feeling. The sniper physics in the original were awesome and very well balanced between fun and realistic.
What's the betting 505 Games will STILL take a massive cut of the profits, simply because of the name? Most publishers snatch the rights to the name, not just the platform, so even though Rebellion are self-funding the PC version; the contract with 505 Games could well be that they own the rights and are entitled to profits from any version of the game
Still, all fucking kudos to Rebellion for that! The first game was so much fun, I'm really looking forward to the sequel and nope; I won't pirate it either.
The hell.. I haven't even heard of the first game before today and everyone here is ecstatic about it..
I should give it a try..

Coming from the studio behind Aiens vs Predator, Sniper Elite V2 features a unique 'kill cam', which rewards a 'good' shot by getting as close as possible to the impact to show just how devastating a sniper's bullet can be. Pretty devastating it turns out.
505 president Ian Howe is tipping Sniper Elite V2 to be "the most brutally realistic military sharpshooter out there on the market" and, if it turns out anything like the trailer below, he could be right.
Following the bullet along its path, the cam eventually switches to slow motion X-ray detail to show its actual effects on the target's skeleton and organs.
The kill cam rewards good gameplay but is also built to "reinforce the chilling impact of the sniper on the battlefields of World War Two."
"We're really excited by the new teaser trailer for Sniper Elite V2," says Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley.
"It gives a sneak peek at the kind of action you can expect from the game, as well as the chance to see what makes it so unique.
"This is no 'run and gun' game and you have to be strategic, take your time and think problems through rather than go in all guns blazing - exactly what made the original Sniper Elite such a great game."
"The kill cam is both a big part of Sniper Elite's gameplay and a major technical challenge - recreating in exacting detail the effect of a bullet on the human body," added Rebellion CTO Chris Kingsley.
"This is just a glimpse for now, but we know fans of the original Sniper Elite will be thrilled to see we've taken what made Sniper Elite such a hit and built on it."
Awesome teaser trailer. I never tried the first game to be honest, despite hearing from most people that it's a fantastic game. I might try it before this one gets released to get an idea of what the franchise is about. Right now I have Path of Exile to eat my time, plus I need and want to do a full report of the game for the devs, they deserve it (fantastic beta build by the way).
