But why would he lose time with Half-Life?
It's been a while since their last Zombie Co-op Call of Duty, so I'll bet that's what they're working on right now.

Just out of interest, why do some of you hate anything Valve & Gabe so much? Because of the L4D 1-> 2 failure or the slow release cycles?
I'm probably one of the few who still stand behind Valve; I really didn't like the shit they pulled with L4D2 either, but L4D itself was a very amusing game. Besides that pretty much everything they've done I like - most notably the fact that everything is moddable is fantastic if you ask me

same reason you probably dont like the guy that runs activision? guys a ruthless money-hound and nothing more. difference is, that kotick guy never pretended to be anything other than a cunt, so you cant be taken by surprise no matter what he does - but atleast hes honest. gabe and his company pretended to be 'for' gamers, so its the largest betrayal.

I don't care for gabe or valve as all their focus is on steam and they just keep making new source mods or 'games' instead of making something awesome like more half life games.

As if Portal and TF2 aren't two of the best games they've made.. But I forgot.. they are "mods" whatever this is supposed to mean..
As for focusing on Steam, actually less than 20% of their human resources are spent on that.
Valve continue to be a game company first and foremost.

How exactly did they "pretend"? I'm still getting the idea you're saying that because of the L4D money hogging, because other than that they're completely different to Activision |
not just l4d... have you SEEN how eagerly valve has jumped onto that microtransaction shit just like activision has stated its planning to? after the massve success that tf2 has had with its store, expect to see that shit more and more in their future games. everything they do is focused on money money money - ive seen virtually EVERYONE on this forum bash companies for taking this approach and having pure profit as their primary motive... so why the hell is it suddenly acceptable when valve does it too? at least be consistant. if youre going to say its fine for valve to aggressively focus on profit-making first and foremost, then youve gotta stop attacking other companies for making their games with a maximising-profit goal as well.
but whatever, right? i do hate valve, im fine with that.
doesnt mean i hate the games they make.. just like i hate ea and activision, but dont mind playing their games if they keep me entertained... its just like those companies, i dont think the company and their actions deserve my money anymore. i just cant respect a company like valve... not just because of l4d, but because of how theyve changed as a company, and how profit driven theyve become. i dont expect you to understand or agree, just like i dont think any of us expect console derps to want 'more' out of their gaming experience than the homogenized crap that they keep being fed... or how some people love activision for that matter...

No, there's a big difference there. Other companies strip content out of their games, bring out the castrated 4 hour version for full price, and then sell the rest as DLC. With TF2, you don't need the microtransaction crap to really enjoy the game. I personally had my doubts about TF2 at first because it was so different from TFC, but it turned out to be a great game on its own, and I enjoyed it a lot with my mates.
Every company is profit driven, that's the nature of it. Difference is that as far as I'm concerned, Valve have delivered good games, with much fairer pricing than most other companies out there. Portal wasn't full price, but it still is one of the best games I ever played. Sure, they hired the people behind it (rather than stealing the idea I might add), but that was good for everyone involved: Valve as a company got a profit out of it, the creators got a good and steady job, and we got a great concept delivered as a properly supported game.
Plus like I said, the fact that they still support modding because they KNOW that's what made HL work is also worth a lot to me. Sticking with Portal, there are a fucking ton of maps that are just fantastic to play. No profit involved there, just more gameplay out of what already was a great game, all thanks to the fact that the community can very easily do it.
HL2 wasn't everything I had hoped it would be, but it was still a very entertaining game, and much more worth its money than 99% of the shit out there today. And again, it resulted in the Source engine, which has turned out to be just as great of a modding platform as GoldSrc was.
I really don't agree with everything they do, and they do need to hurry the fuck up with releasing their games, but I still prefer their methods over all the fucking DLC whoring pieces of shit.

well remains to be seen. like i said, valve has changed a lot recently. the valve that gave us hl2 and tf2 and all those modding opportunties was a long time ago. their switch to massively pushing microtransactions is a worry.
and i dont know how you can see a difference between dlc and the shit they pulled with l4d2.. that was all content designed for and INTENDED for l4d1, to support it like they did tf2... but they pulled it out and charged full price for it.
how can you condemn that shit when its called dlc, but be fine with the same concept just because its valve? like i said, at least be a little bit consistent?
i understand fan-love for companies... and i get it... ppl who love pc gaming are desperate to hold on to the hope that some companies havent abandoned us... but valve is not the pc gaming god, and nothing theyve done in the past couple of years... from aggressively pushing forward into the microtransaction business, to their overpriced steam service, and their withholding game content to repackage as a separate full priced product, suggest to me that theyre in any way the friend of pc gaming.
theyre just not the god we want them to be. not any more at least.

Oh no, that was definitely a fucked up move, but that's still not the proof they've lost it to be honest. Nothing about Portal 2 indicates that it will not be moddable or have plenty of content.
