This just popped up for me in Steam. I must say, that after watching the gameplay video i really like the gameplay. It seems to be like the Port Royale games, but on land.
And since it is Global for the region, do I just buy it from Nuuvem or do I need a VPN to connect there to purchase it and would the key work in my Steam?
I've never purchased from Nuuvem before so I'm curious.
Based on pics and vids, this game superficially looks like a watered-down Total War game.
Amirite?
Supposedly nothing like it. They are saying it's a cross between Europa Universalis and Civilization but nothing like the combat in Total War. They tout it as grand strategy.
I honestly don't know what to think of this game! I liked previous Grand Ages games so I preordered this with the 15% off discount only to find out it's not a Grand Ages game. Based on what I see it looks very interesting. So I'm both disappointed and excited at the same time lol
Played for about an hour and loving it already. Only really touched on trade and commodities so far though
Reminds me of Patrician and Rise of Venice, with some Anno thrown in. Of course I suppose it is a bit like Grand Ages Rome, although I have not played that in years so forget what it was like. Love the period setting!
I was hoping you would be able to plan your city out and lay down farming areas, foresters etc. But that does not seem the case. You just select what you would like to concentrate on (each city can have 5 commodities), not sure yet how the production lines work, IE: sheep - wool - weaver - tailor . I assume they will come under one umbrella and only the final product will count as the commodity, so you will not be that limited in goods to trade/produce. I also assume you will be able to upgrade your town/city to increase the number of commodities you are able to produce. Not even touched on diplomacy yet but it looks like it could be fun.
Not sure I would pay the full price for this though, the interface is huge and ugly, and overall it seems sort of amateurish, or possibly rushed? Having said that I probably have not given it much chance yet.
Anyway if you like any of the games I mentioned above you will probably like this. Sorry for the rather poor mini review but not long got in from work so dead tired..
I like the bit that i played so far. The GUI i don't find that bad. But i already hate those ugly 3D character models. 2D portraits would have been much better and more fitting.
Trading also seems to be VERY simplified, as you have the choice to let traders automatically chose the best products on their trading routes?!
I'm glad I didn't buy it. People on the Steam forums are griping about the bugs, the boring gameplay and lack of sandbox mode (although I thought I read you can continue to play after the campaign is done). But, time to check out the isodemo.
There is the option to play an 'Open game' at the main menu. You are not limited to the campaign, not played the campaign all the way through, but I would suggest starting there as it eases you into the game.
The thing I am finding tough going, is balancing the books. Whatever I do I end up with negative income. Tweaked every possible option, cut workers, raised taxes, but obviously raising taxes too far has a negative impact on production, as does less workers. So at the moment I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. Could get rid of my scout but he is handy, furthermore when it comes to setting up trade agreements, I seem to have to pay them 10,000 once, then pay it again immediately after. It is as if the first payment is a sweetener or something. I only pay 10,000 as trying to pay 1,2 or 5 and they won't accept. In addition it always seems to be me seeking the trade agreements, so far, no-one from another town has approached me to suggest an agreement, hence it is always me parting with my cash.
Another gripe I have, or at least I have not worked out a way to what to me seems obvious. If I own two cities I can't just transfer goods from one to the other, for example if Bristol needs wood and London has a surplus. I can only trade, presumably once you settle a new city it becomes independent with regards to trade.

Here's a working release that starts without any errors. Previous release
would fail with certain setups, specifically Windows 10.
The created shortcut points to the wrong exe; running GrandAgesMedieval.exe

Coming soon...
After playing for a few hours more, I have to agree with many comments from those who purchased the game, it is very dull after a while and lacks many features which are a must for a game of this type. I can see many updates on the horizon, if not then I will certainly not buy this. It really feels unfinished and it is as if it's just a base or template for a work in progress..
I dont know what all the butt hurt is about on the forums. Okay i also had to restart my campaign 4 times because of financial problems but now i got a bit the hang of it and it goes a lot better.
I'm a sucker for anything which someone claims is like Europa Universalis
I also read the bad reviews, it seems like it's lacking quite a bit still, but Kalypso likes to shovel DLC which actually changes the game. So I'm hoping they do EU like transform. (Eu3 base game was pretty lacking and buggy piece of crap )
