Turmoil Games is an independent Finnish game studio founded in 2008 by a diverse group of media professionals.

The Game

In the midst of the snowfields of Greenland lies Alpha Polaris™, an American oil research station. High above, the ion storm of the century is gathering, bringing about a strange intermixing of reality and night terrors. It is up to Rune Knudsen, a Norwegian biologist, to take on a desperate struggle against fear and death, and to face the primordial force lurking beyond the veiled sky.

“The heart of the game is its restrained horror setting. It allows us to explore a wide range of human themes in a realistic way: paranoia, isolation, friendship, love and so on. To us, that is the core of a good horror adventure.” -project leader Teemu Vilén.

Alpha Polaris: a Horror Adventure Game will be available on Windows PC on 24.6.2011
he game will be initially available for download in English and German. Other language versions (announced later) will be published regionally.

Demo of Alpha Polaris is now available for download: English version / German version. The required minimum resolution is 1280×800.

Game Features:
Mature, character-driven storyline
Streamlined point & click interface
Puzzles are an integral part of the story
3D characters in beautiful, pre-rendered scenes
Full spoken dialogue
1280x800 widescreen resolution
Expressive, hand-drawn dialogue portraits
Atmospheric soundscape including original soundtrack

I checked out the demo. For a low-budget title, it seemed really good. I was certainly impressed by both the voice acting and visual aesthetics.

I recommend trying this out.

Also, I'm a sucker for this kind of horror setting Smile

And here I was seeing "Alpha Polaris" and thinking they finally made a sequel/remake of Alpha Centauri. Crap. I should just get around to gathering a team and making it ourselves. It's been long overdue.

fair enough, but why can't you change it? i'd be fine with turning it down for the game.
but it automatically takes the desktop resolution.

What about making a custom resolution? That's possible in Nvidia Control panel.

If that works, you can then chose one of 2 ways of doing image scaling or simply turn scaling off. That should give you either a slightly stretched image or Vertical black bars instead of running windowed mode.

Took a few minutes to download, didn't expect it to be just 750 MB, might be a interesting game. Smile

EDIT: Good it allows windowed mode, solves the problem with the resolution choice, a number of other settings and enhancements are also available including AA, guess it'll be a 3D title, even has a voice archive that takes about 40 MB of those 750.

EDIT: Guess I'm called Guy then, nice with some dialogue choice, odd task though.

EDIT: Ah it's Rune Knudsen, seems I discovered it accidentally by using items on myself.
(Use lighter on self might not really have been the best command but here it didn't do anything which is nice.)
