I keep getting CTDs that leave me at 640x480 resolution with 16 colours. When I tried to log off windows the monitor stopped receiving a signal from the video card - the screen just went black.

I got a 8800gts 320 mb. Does anyone know what exactly is happening? Driver crash, possibly? I don't get a message that the driver crashed though.

edit: I'm on the newest beta drivers: 280.19

The crashes happen in Far Cry 1 and Fallout New Vegas.

Well, I would first recommend removing the beta drivers and installing an older, preferably WHQL set. See if that helps. If it does, it was probably a beta driver issue. If not, you may be running into other troubles, and can go from there.

Anything suspicious in the event log viewer?

Wasn't really paying attention to that. I'll have to check it when the error reoccurs.

I'll roll back the drivers then.

That wouldnt by any chance have that bad shit nvidia was selling a while back where the solder joints started failing on their graphic cards. Happens more often on laptops but i think the early 8 series desktop cards were also part of it, which is what you have.
Id grab something to stress test the card say the msi afterburners - Kombustor.
If you are getting failures playing games it could be the drivers but sounds to me like a card failing

Switch DVI slot if you have one free, see if that helps.
