Last weekend I purchased a new Radeon 6950 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161372 )

I'm having a problem I cannot figure out for the life of me...

The card has two DVI ports, I am using the bottom DVI-D Dual Link port to connect to my PC monitor with a DVI-D cable which works flawlessly. The second port is a DVI-I Dual Link port, which I use to connect to my 32" Vizio, it is connected by a VGA cable with a DVI-I adapter, this does not work.

I have tried different adapters, different cables, and I cannot get my Vizio to display picture no matter what combination I use. To make sure the DVI-I port wasn't messed up I plugged in my PC monitor and it worked perfectly, but when I try to connect my TV via the VGA cable with the DVI-I adapter it wont work.

Before this I was using a 5850 with the same monitor/cable setup and everything worked fine. Wtf is going on here?

Have you tried tampering with the settings? You know, extending display and such...

Vizio has no digital input at all, the second DVI port does work on my monitor, and yes the PC detects them both. I have messed around with the settings.... a lot.

Sometimes the vizio will work, but the screen will be all red, or all green (if i move the vga cable by the DVI port a bit).

was thinking my vizio doesnt support a digital signal? but then why would my old 5850 work without issue.... i know the card isnt messed up because both ports work perfectly with my pc monitor. WTFUX?

Well if you're using VGA it won't be using a digital signal, VGA is analog. I haven't used a VGA connector in years, so I don't know if there's any options to force analog output in CCC?

Then again, you say the image changes when you move the connector - that would indicate a problem on that end, not software.

Well, if I'm using a VGA with a DVI connector is it still only limited to VGA signal?

I know for a fact that the port isn't messed up because both ports work on my monitor, but neither with the vizio.....

which is strange because with my old 5850 I had no problems.

Was the port on your 5850 a DVI-I port as well?

And yes, if your Vizio only accepts VGA input you can only use analog, VGA output. Using a DVI-I convertor is purely for convenience, because the added data DVI can hold is completely wasted.
