Is it just me or is there a shortage of dedicated quality PC games these days? |

As the title suggests what are the best PC games released this year so far?
I've been a gamer for 23 years or more but mostly a fan of games such as Arma these days as I find there isn't a lot of decent shooters released anymore.. I used to be a fan of the Rainbow Six series until they fucked it up by releasing the consoley vegas series which were obviously crap compared to Ravenshield. (Whatever happened to the promised SDK too?? Grr.)

Haha, I'm just a bit random and it's a question within a question related to the post content as I mention there seems to be a lack of quality games these days.
Good evenings sir!... May I have your bank account details and sortcode please...

Seems about the same as its always been. The majority of games have always been crap with a few gems here and there.

I don't care whether a game is dedicated or not, there are a shitload of garbage PC only games. As long as a game gets the proper attention on different platforms, it's all good. This year, and the last part of 2010 have been golden. Multiplatform != shit, just as PC only != awesome.

Not necessarily PC only as that hardly happens anymore, even IL-2 is now on the consoles, I'm suprised you cant get the Microsoft Flight Simulator series on the Xbox etc thes days as that's ho things are going.. I'm most looking forward to Elder Scrolls as they are quality games and Driver. I've installed Dues ex, but haven't played it properly yet, looks good though so far.

This year, frankly, gives me hope in gaming in general, and PC gaming specifically. Only in 2011 have I felt, like the trend of simplifying games for the sake of a larger audience might be turning. More and more great indy games on the PC for starters, studios migrating from XBLIG to Steam, triple A titles having proper PC controls (DXHR), and some absolutely fucking GREAT PC exclusives, like TW2 (yeah, I know, next year on couchbox...) and my personal favourite Hard Reset (devs, if you ever need a blowjob, you know where to find me ... I'll hook you up with some whores )
I'd say NO is my answer to this question. We have developers crawling out of the woodwork claiming, that PC is back in the spotlight, that's a HUGE change in the trend. BF3 (while I couldn't give less of a fuck about the game) was demoed on PC the vast majority of the time is something great. Publishers might finally be coming around. (somewhat, I'm not being naive here)

Yeah there is a shitload of crap PC only games such as the various, bus simulator and truck simulator variation of games etc.
I think with PC's being so powerful these days with massive specs compared to consoles and the fact a gamer is forking out 500 quid a time for just a graphics card on top of his monster pc specs which cost a bomb too, there still isnt enough games to justify the cost of the PC I find.

Hi console gamer. Plenty of people around here have been building damn good systems for 600-700 EUR (700 EUR = 615-ish GBP). If you buy 500 quid videocards then the joke's on you for not doing any research on whether they're worth it.
And 2011 has been mighty fine for the PC in gaming, with developers even coming out and finally stating the obvious: consoles have obsolete hardware and are holding them back; not even necessarily because of graphics, but because of RAM issues and such.

Short answer: NO. I'll just quote myself from the Bastion thread.
DarkRohirrim wrote: | Ok, so GOTY material for me this year so far are:
1. Deus Ex Human Revolution
2. The Witcher 2
3. Bastion
4. Portal 2
5. Magicka
With the following as honorable mentions:
Two Worlds II (it was released this year in some regions)
Alice: Madness Returns
Hard Reset
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Darkspore (from what little I played in the beta; I'm not sure how much I would play it if I would buy it, but it's a really solid game in my opinion)
Path of Exile (Closed Beta) |
NZXT S340 ELITE : EVGA Z370 FTW / [ Intel i7 8086k @4.0Ghz ][ ASUS TUF RTX 3060 Ti 8GB ][ 16GB G.Skill Trident Z @3200mhz CL16 ][ 128GB Intel760p Series + 1TB Crucial MX500 + 3TB WD RED ][ Thermaltake Toughpower PF1 650W ]

this,
A decent PC build from 3-5 years ago (from 8800GTX, Core2Duo onwards) is still able to play any game on, at least, console-level gfx quality.

I really like the AC series. AC2 was one of the GOTYs for me, but I wouldn't call it or AC:B a perfect PC port. Mouse look was awful for one... and then there's the whole DRM issue.
As for this year... actually, I was just recently thinking what a great year this has been for PC gaming, and it's not even over yet. In my opinion this topic is much less relevant this time, than it has been for the last few years.
I can only hope this positive trend carries on into the next year.
