Rather than pollute the original topic, I'll put my problem here.
My rig:
Q8200 @ 2.33Mhz( unfortunately, can't OC it because the mobo is quite old)
GTS 450 1GB GDDR5
4 GB RAM
Win 7
Gpu, sound drivers are all up to date. Tried using the nvidia control panel and puting the driver.exe under Prefer Maximum Performance, running as admin, in compatibility mode.
The lockups occur in the main menu, ingame, during cutscenes even when the car is not moving. Sometimes they're half a second, sometimes 2-3. I don't have problems with any other game, just this motherfucker.
Had an error that said that flash.ocx was missing, so I installed flash activex, that seemed to correct the error, but not the lockups.
I also got the Black Box version, and getting the same issues as the skidrow version.
So, if anyone has any idea, feel free to contribute, I'm up for every solution except format:C and win7 reinstall.
Thanx in advance.

It's 32bit, the refresh rate is 75Hz and v-sync is turned off. I can understand the stuttering happening ingame, but in the main menu, that's just weird.

Wasn't there a post in the main thread about the game having a refresh rate problem?
That would explain the stuttering if so, perhaps try 60hz and compare in the main menu directly if so.
Can't think of much else, I assume you do have the update installed as I believe both releases utilize this data and not the original 1.0 version, maybe something to check?
(Either manual download or via running gu.exe before starting the game / launcher.)
EDIT: Actually run the launcher and let it update the Ubisoft Launcher program to the latest version and in the process also update the game (Might need to run gu.exe separately.), this does not affect anything since you will not log in or anything.

Nah, didn't help, still got the stuttering.
The only thing I could try now is to install the game on a different computer.
I don't really want to play the game, I just want to find out what's causing the problem.
Could it be that the game is constantly trying to connect to ubisofts servers?
I mean, what could cause hangups in the main menu? The music doesn't stop, just the visuals seem to freeze for a second.

Just tried the game on my sisters computer. AND IT'S HAPPENING THERE AS WELL!!!
Two different computers have the same problem? No fucking way.
Although, upon exiting she had the same error I did, that flash.ocx wasn't featured in this version of Windows anymore. This is fixed by installing activex, but that doesn't fix the freezing up.
Is there something I'm missing? some drivers other than GPU and soundcard?

Have you tried the read-only trick for the replays?
C:\Users\NAME\Documents\Ubisoft\Driver San Francisco\NAME\replays
Either make the entire replays folder read-only, or each file inside, it's both the same anyhow. Apparently the game keeps trying to write to the HDD during play, recreating the replay file in case you switch to Director mode. This causes stuttering for a lot of people.

Yeah, I did that and it didn't work.
Now I have a fresh installation and haven't started the game, so there are no replays yet.
But there's no need to start a new game because the game stutters even in the main menu.
It's not stuttering as much as it is 1 second freezing of the screen, while the music continues.
I had stuttering on GTA IV; this is not stuttering, just 1-2 second freezups during gameplay, and 1 second in the main menu.
Changing graphic settings does nothing.
The problem occurs in both the Skidrow version and the Black Box rip.

I believe Windows tries to adress it as well..
It might have problems with such huge amounts of memory (huge amount as for 32-bit version, of coz). If you are fresh after format, try downloading 64-bit Windows 7, install it and see if there's any diference...

I really don't feel like formating again, since I've restored alot of lost content already.
Isn't there a way of limiting the amount of RAM Windows can use?

Star > Run > msconfig > Boot > Advanced Options > Maximum Memory
Never tried it, but I assume it'd do the job for testing purposes.

Hi there
i have downloaded both Driver San Francisco BLACK-BOX Repack 3.2GB and Driver San Francisco Skidrow and strangely enough here is what happened i am running Windows 7 32 bit.
Skidrow's release did not even install when i press the setup.exe it pops up with installanywhere and after it finishes nothing happens.
Then i downloaded Black-Box version and installed in my E drive all went well and the game actually has run but did not have the time playing it. then when i tried to run it again to finally play it the second time nothing happens i click on driver.exe and nothing happens.
Please help me out as i never had any problems with skidrow releases but this one yes.
HELP NEEDED
thanks
Robert
