So Denmark just changed government to a more left-sided one, not my vote, but take a quick look at these new ministers for a laugh:

The new minister of Taxation (unsure of the name of ministry in english, but you get it?)
is 26 years old and is still enrolled in political science study. Didnt even get elected on top of that.

The new minster of our church, was seconds away, 1.5 month ago, to quit the same church system he is now in control of.

And former prominent danish communist is now in charge of creating jobs Smile

Italy go home, we won.

1. ministers aren't "elected", they're appointed by the government party(ies).
2. minister of church - who cares? hopefully he'll work for secularity

All in all a rather big win. The Danish Peoples Party, a racist party, lost a ton of votes which is a big win. Going further to the left will stabilise the increasing chasm between haves and have-nots.

@Frant your point 1 is useless. Thats not what im talking about, im talking about he didnt get enough votes of his party, but was given a minister spot, even when there where people with way more votes than him. Don´t assume I don´t know what im talking about, when i am the one making a topic on politics - thats just rude.

Point 2 is also lame, you might not think the church is important, and ive my self has stopped paying to that crap long ago, but come on, elect persons for jobs that are worthy of them.

I agree that those racist tossers on the far right is good to have away from power, but getting "Enhedslisten" closer is a small win (read the polical program from 2004 and laugh your ass off).

We don't even have a church minister in my country (since church and state separated a long time ago). I find the whole idea of a ministry of church ludicrous. Wink

@Mister S: I don´t know about your age - but im way wiser now that im 33 than when I was 23. Im pretty sure when im 43 ill be wiser also, but not by the same amount from 23 to 33.
But it was not the 26 that was funny, but that he is still in school, learning about the thing, he is now in charge off.

I like the new Danish politics. Didn't like the right wing populists at all. The islam hating madman Breivik from Norway must have made the Danish think.

The danish right wing party still got some 430.000 votes :/ Down just 40.000 votes from the last time. But ya generally people just wanted change from the previous government.

But another extreme "Enhedslisten" on the left wing got many votes this time, and while better than the right wing rhetoric, I still detest its crazy outdated political program.

Honestly i think the new minister of church is going to do a good job!
But i cant stop laughing at the new government they are gonna continue with the exact same politics as the previous. Putting a 26 year old guy in charge of the taxation is just insane ! That guy have zero experience in life !

the funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

What does a minister of church do? I always thought Denmark was a secular state...

And about the '26 y.o. still studying' minister, well, at least he is studying! Here in Brazil we have a few politicians who can barely read and write...

And he will do exactly that. As long as the people pay for the church we, the government, have a say in how it operates. Manu Sareen(the new church minister) says his primary objective is secularity.

It's easy to hear that Doh didn't vote for them cause you could make the same ridicilous comments about the old government. I do not like Ole Sohn at all, though(the work and growth minister he talks about).

Why is an academic education mandatory to be a good politician? That has never been a requisite. It's a representative democracy so why shouldnt people with other types of education be in the parliament? And a ministry is a huge operation, it hardly comes down to the individuals academic achievements.

We are but we also have "Folkekirken" which every person pays taxes to unless they decide not to. You are automatically signed up for it but you can choose not to. Anyway if you think any of the politicians in Denmark know more about life because they are older you are kidding yourself. Atleast a young guy such as him hasn't been 'tainted' by the career politicians as much, yet.

You already answered a few. If taxpayers' money goes to the church it is only normal to have someone from the cabinet to look over it. Here churches are not funded by taxes, church organisations do pay lower taxes themselves though. They are funded by private donations or they have income from other possessions like real estate. I am kinda surprised to read that 80.4% of the Danes are still a member of the Church of Denmark.

You are automatically a member when you get baptized and remain one until you take action. The number is the same in Norway that I know, and probably in Sweden too. The church here has no real estate other than the churches, the priests residenc
es and the graveyards which are all funded by the government anyway. There is no financial gain for anyone involved in the church beyond the obvious such as salary.

As to the number its a cultural thing. Its tradition to get baptized and throw a celebration. You sort of get introduced to the world by name at that point. You also have to be baptized in order to give your confirmation another huge tradition for young teens in Denmark. The celebration paired with your confirmation is on level with a bar mitzvah. You get huge gifts and everyone you know in your family and friends are invited. In the old days it meant you were now an adult and for most at that time it meant you started working for a living.

It's such a central part of your upbringing that families who oppose religion tend to throw 'nonfirmation' parties. Which is the same but without the whole church thing.

I have both been christened and had my confirmation but I'm a staunch atheist. But when you're 13 you focus more on the bike, bed, tv, iphone and thousands of kroner you are going to get Very Happy
