So I can't seem to set up NFS sharing correctly between my win 7 computer and an apple tv 2 running xbmc downstairs over wireless. SMB works, but not without buffering the shit out of everything (which also begs the question of why I can pause youtube and let it get ahead of the video but not anything over the network).

anyone have any experience with this? NFS is supposed to stream better so I'm thinking this would save me from running a 35 foot cable to my router.

I have the folder mapped as a drive on the computer, but ATV2 says it can't find it over the network address the computer has. I've tried a "regular" windows NFS service as well as hanewin NFS server, didn't matter.

help?

I don't see how one should help more than the other. They are both file-sharing protocols, but are ultimately similar. It is up to the player to manage its buffering.
I'd suggest using what is working, and instead focus on setting the input buffer of XBMC higher.

SMB (Samba) shares are the regular Windows file shares we all know.

there is no buffer setting on the ATV2 version of XBMC Sad

I was only going this route because there seem to be others who get better streaming performance in the exact same situation as me using NFS

Well, problem solved I guess. Installed Plex and the streaming is much more consistent than XBMC.
