How am I supposed to chastise Neona when we fail our co-op mission for the 7th time due to her noobness?

Why does everyone think they're so important anyway? You'd find more on a facebook account than you would for what these guys might collect. |
oh, the "it is worse elsewhere" fallacy. It is like saying that because people in africa starve to death, it is ok to rob some around here. It makes no sense. Just because something somewhere might be worse, does not make an offence less of an offence. They ARE collecting data, that is not theirs to collect.
reminds me off that old quote from socialist east-germany (if you dont have anything to hide you wont mind the cameras). Well, i fucking mind the cameras, no matter if i wouldnt have a problem with the world seeing me running naked through the streets...

Yeahhhh... I hate Origin as much as the next guy (moreso, even, depending on the next guy), but this is just being picky. It's a EULA. If you're going to hate EA/Origin, hate them for their lack of sales, their prices, their anti-competetive stance on DLC and more, but don't hate on them for this. This is small beans. And this is coming from someone who is very anti-spyware.

a EULA that is illegal is illegal no matter if somebody agrees to it.
you really think i missed the point? Just look at how well companies keep consumer data safe. How often has sony been hacked in the last months? Do you really think that giving companies more and more personal data - while they ensure us, that they ll be only doing the right things with it - is something believable (or even feasible in light of the above mentioned hacking scandals)?

Tools. All origin users are being used to further expand EA's plans for world video gaming domination. You are all pawns in their game. You are DOOMED.

origin is spyware and they need to patch bf3 so we can play it woithout origin, origin is ILLEGAL in the EU. And did you see it has been sniffing around peoples tax stuff, skype accounts, all directories on your computer and it can just take whatever data it finds and upload it somewhere.
I will write an official letter asap so they are forced under eu regulation to remove any and all informations they have based on the eu data acts.
fucking wankers think they can get away with it, and fanboys defending it are exactly the cause we are losing all freedoms... dont give a shit, then bugger off and let the people who do care defend your and our freedom and rights.

it scans for games, it doesn't read files or transmit anything.
It's funny how every single person is officially an expert on privacy and eula's now because they read something on rockpapershotgun. get real. Origin is crap but you people are probably 1 step removed from wrapping your pc in tinfoil to keep your information safe

this is a pirates den. Do you really think that people around here do not know how to judge the actions of an executable? It does read file-names and attributes of those files from your hdds. Doing that can give away A LOT of information about a person (some IM programs for example store conversations by users in folder structure, so you could data-mine people's social relations).
as has been shown by several people on teh intarwebs origin does collect very private data in those filename-scans. No company has a right to that information.
I guess all those people defending origin and the actions of EA have either been broken down by all the other companies trying similar shit before (sony, blizzard, etc) or do not care about the consequences / ramifications of excepting intrusions into their privacy of that scale. A third option would be cognitive dissonance (because you bought the game, it cant be that bad). But no matter what the excuses / reasons are for not giving a shit, it does not make this a severe breach of civil rights / data privacy protection go away.

And you know that from where? Oh I see, you pulled it out of your ass.
It's funny how funny, that some people still don't understand thumbs up to thumbs up, tinfoil remark. I hear the same shit from every person that doesn't understand the problem.
The EULA is there, it's real and you don't have to be a lawyer to understand what it means. Don't compare this to facebook, because yes, its for noobs. Don't compare it to STEAM because their EULA doesn't even look remotely similar and its run by Valve. Comparing EA to Valve is just stupid.
People, like myself are concerned about their privacy because it's a basic right. It's not only about personal rights, it's also about the principle.

Just show me where and when it has collected that private data then
We have these people playing with wireshark or syscall monitor or whatever acting like they know what they are doing but I havent seen a single shred of reliable proof that EA spies yet
I'm not saying they won't do it, or they haven't. I am just saying where and when has it been done?
no I dont suffer from cognitive dissonance. I don't like BF3 and I don't like origin, and I am not trying to reconcile running a program to play a game I like. I am just waiting for someone to show me actual evidence of EA violating someone's rights. Not "they can do this and they can do that" because a million companies can violate my rights in a million ways, it doesn't mean they have.

I'm not going to add to the fire but people pointing the nitpicking finger and saying people are overreacting is the very attitude that got us starforce, securom and this UBI crap. It doesn't matter if it's going over board or not, people who are paying for their software have the right to voice a concern about companies trying to get away with crap like this.
Keep saying people are over reacting, or people need to go sit back on the fence. It's the very same attitude that allowed our government here in the U.S. to get so bad.
These gaming companies work for US..the paying customer. They should be making software the caters to their needs and not theirs, and as soon as everyone lets them, you'll be running a digital service for every separate publisher out there while having to have branded USB sticks coded with special top secret codes to run your games.

Just because you know there are rapist out there you shouldn't wait to be raped to make up your mind, neither you should give them a legal right to do so.
