I have a problem with my network in windows XP.
Every five minutes or so, windows tells me "A network-cable has been unplugged" and a few seconds later it goes back to normal.
This is very annoying because that interrupts all existing connections and playing games online is almost impossible.
I tried to delete the network card and let XP reinstall it, but no luck with that. I'm using SP2, but it has been working perfect on SP2 for a while, it's just recently I've had problems with this.
Also the light on the networkcard / switch does not flicker or anything like that when this happens.
EDIT: I know I can just reinstall this machine, but I would really like to find another solution to this.
You can also try to ping your IP of the network card for the whole time. Just use the -t command with ping and it will ping the whole time. If you can't ping your network card during these few seconds you get the error message, it's problem of windows, if the pings are successfull it is rather not a windows problem.
I can confirm that I've gotten the same message/warning since I installed SP2. The animated network icon just keeps going and going. At least my internet works. Also, a reboot helps for me.
perhaps windows firewall is the problem man....use a third party software firewall like zonealarm or sygate and disable the silly windows version. If you use a router than cycle the puppy and or modem (turn it off for 30 secs , start it again)
see if this helps...could just be hardware failure or a bad cable as explained above
You may be running software that's opening up too many connections causing the rebooting of your router/switch/hub. Could be an incompatability of software/ hardware.
