*Synopsis
Quote:
Grotesque Tactics* combines the features and clichés of Western and Asian console role playing games (such as Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics) and provides an highly addicting and entertaining change
to the current more serious role playing titles. To protect the kingdom from the merciless cult “The Dark Church” which has murdered all heroes and knights you will have to hire dubious soldiers – and rescue jealous maidens who will follow you into combat as your groupies. Up to 10 heroes are deployed in tactical battles to take on the Dark Church with their special abilities.

The developers of Grotesque Tactics are deeply focused to bring across the fascination of the Strategy RPG genre known through more serious titles such as Heroes of Might and Magic, Jagged Alliance or King’s Bounty.

On the side Grotesque Tactics throws a lot of dialogues and a grand story in your face mimicking the whole RPG genre in a most humorous way including numerous side blows towards Oblivion, Final
Fantasy or Lord of the Rings. Grotesque Tactics is funny with a great plot and gives you a tactical challenge to remember.

* Turn based tactical battles with the funniest animations yet seen in any RPG
* Distinctive party members such as the arrogant Holy Avatar, the blood thirsty Vampire Solithaire, the sweet but hot-tempered Angel Angelina and many more
* Gorgeous villages & landscapes and sinister & dark dungeons
* Scantily dressed maidens to be freed from the grasp of merciless monsters
* Enormous, highly detailed and very pissed off end bosses
* Classical RPG elements: Quests, treasures, trade, leveling and outfitting of the party...

*In chess, a grotesque is a problem or endgame study which features a particularly unlikely
initial position, especially one in which White fights with a very small force against a much
larger black army. Grotesques are generally intended to be humorous.

Anyone tried this yet? It looks mildly interesting.

It's different, played trough the multi-language German version earlier, mixed a blend of western and eastern RPG but it's a bit low-budget and a very short game, also rather goofy so expect a lot of jokes about sex and killer mushrooms and it is basically a semi-tactical (expect to hear semi-divine a lot btw.) hack & slash.

Fun for one playtrough though.

EDIT: Old screens I took.

was out for a while. Expect a bad game, be sure of that. My 3 years old rig is able to play Crisys and Metro2033 on medium settings, but this one was so jerky even on low settings. blah.

It's been patched a few times, though the updates are mostly only found on the official forums so a lot of people missed those, unsure how it is now but it had about three updates when I played trough it.

EDIT: GFX options can be altered and set as wanted, including disabling various effects.

yeap, you are right, but I do not know, just a kind of bad effect...I mean, back 7-8 years ago, it would have been a very good game for sure...

That is true as well in a way, game is dated and a bit clunky with interface and movement in general though it's turned based so it's manageable, blocky models as well (Low polygon detail.) and basic textures plus shaders (extra bloom/haze.) plus it has a rather simple story and juvenile (Or what it's called.) humor level (The mid-game fairy boss for example is a fat man in a ballerina outfit with fake wings and the dungeon is reused from the previous quest - which the character you play as - the emo suicide dude to clarify - remarks immediately.), that other Grotesque game seems to have trailed of though I've no idea if these are related.

(Bunny monster in that game.)

(I'd guess this is one of the maiden companions you "collect"

(Holy or His semidivine humble self as he calls himself I t hink this depicts.)

(Ogre enemy, you can see one above for comparison in my later images that I posted.)

(Unless there was a budget cut or something?)

Fun for a playtrough within a few hours but not something many will replay. end result is a bit average compared to the competing RPG/strategy titles but I laughed a few times and again it's a rather short game and not very large in filesize either.
(Not much content though, one town or "hub" three to four weapons and outfits per character and only eight or so monsters in total with some variations between them like boss variants.)

tried to play this ages ago. got bored of it real fast, and uninstalled it. didnt grab me. yeah the self parody was fun for a bit, but ALL it had going for it, was humor and what i expected would be a kinda light hearted adult orientated theme... failed at both, atleast as far as i played it.

Screens from the sequel, character models now consist of 100+ polygons instead of those low-resolution (Though still humorous but crudely proportioned.) avatars.

I like tactics games like that, but the first one sucked hard. Is the sequel any better?
