My laptop has some random Broadcom 802.11 wireless in it, it should be able to get 802.11n speeds.
Router is the:
TP-Link Model No. TL-WR1043N / TL-WR1043ND

This is what settings i use in the router:

 Spoiler:

And this is what i get in windows when connected:

 Spoiler:

And it results in these speeds:

 Spoiler:

I have the latest drivers for the card and latest firmware for the router, tried using diffrent channel and mode (switched back to g was even worse), max taxrate forced to 54mbit made no diffrence at all..
Anyone got any idea what might cause this?

Channel: Auto

Change that to different channels and see your speeds rise. Wink

Yea forgot to put that, did diffrent channel and some even knocked connection down to virtually nothing (read 15kb/s)

This is as best as it gets

What's wrong with 300mbit? the router itself is 1000mbit on cable.
Your's is only 150mbit diffrence for 100 more euro's, while my internet itself only 120mbit is. So not worth it.
Plus TP-Link = Cisco, can't go wrong there.

Is your internet not a "up to 120mb" service and what you are seeing is actual speed of the service in your area?

Turn off B/G/N mixed. What is happening is that your router is seeing B and G wireless networks in the air, and downgrading to G speeds in order to save airspace for other networks. Make it N only and it should operate at N speeds. Make sure your laptop is set to the same.

Make sure you are using AES encryption as TKIP or anything will cause performance issues as well.

This should resolve any issues.

A quick glance at your thing shows you have a lot of networks right next to your own network. So keep in mind that if everyone is pushing traffic over their own wireless network on a consistant basis there isn't going to be a lot of space left for your own packets.

To get full N speeds the distance can't be very far. You need to be in the same room in most houses for full speeds. It also needs to be the only device currently pushing wireless packets over the channels selected.

Finally, you won't see much better results with your speed test when using 802.11 G. After all the overhead involved 20mbps +/- is about the best you'll ever see anyways. (At G Speeds)

Well i set my mode to pure n only now, getting abit better now.

Tho setting channel to anything else then automatic, basically rapes the connection.

And getting this as speeds:

 Spoiler:

Tho strange thing is, why is it saying only 65 mbit on the status of the wireless (wich if i just connected is on 72mbit then drops down to this).

This is when i'm basically next to the router.

Any other suggestions? You said something about set the laptop to pure n, cannot find where to change that tho.

You could use something like Inssider to see which channels are most free.

Ah sweet, lemme check this. Because it was a mayor hassle rebooting the damn thing nonstop.

Edit: used it, and i'm using a channel that nobody has in use. So the above post is already on the "best" channel possible.

But, as you can see you still only have bandwidth free from 3-4 and 8-9. You need that ENTIRE space to be clear if you want perfect speeds. When it says 4+8 it means 4 THROUGH 8. Then not to mention the channel and half overlap anyways.

So basically - You are fucked. You are never going to get much better then G speeds due to the fact that there just isn't enough bandwidth available anymore.

About the only thing I could suggest is hacking the firmware on both devices to see if you could use channel 14. Using that high of a frequency is only allowed in Japan. But with hacked firmware you could use it.

As for changing the wireless adaptor in your laptop to N only - That option is always found under the device manager window for the WLAN adaptor. (But you are now running higher then G speeds as indicated in your latest post so this wouldn't help anything.)

Or, if your WLAN adaptor and WRouter support it use the 5ghz band. Most higher end ones support this. Your range will become even shittier due to using a higher frequency, but not many people use the 5ghz range.

Honestly, i'd just be happy with the WLAN speeds you got, and if you really need full bandwidth then you are going to need to plug it in.

Hmm, as for that hacked firmware.

This is the router i got: http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/?categoryid=238&model=TL-WR1043ND

I see that it's not possible to go 5Ghz on those, only on the 450mbit ones.
But could you look for me if there is any hacked firmware for this one please?

Btw i see this there on that page:

Quote:
Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) applies the existing WLAN listen-before-talk rule to the bandwidth needed for binding channels. It automatically avoids channel conflicts using its clear channel selection feature and fully realizes the advantages of channel binding, greatly enhanced the wireless performance.

Could this be the one that is forcing it to use 4 to 8?

4 to 8 is your best option. You wouldn't want to use anything else.
