Description
adds "Subpixel Morphological Antialiasing" to an application
is based on "injectFXAA" (written by "some dude")
is supposed to work only with directx 9, directx 10, directx 11, x86 applications
may be incompatible with any other form of antialiasing
SMAA is a very efficient GPU-based MLAA implementation, capable of handling subpixel features seamlessly, and featuring an advanced pattern detection & handling mechanism.

PumpAction : not my pictures, but if you open both pictures in new window, you will see the difference, SMAA is definitely less blurrier.

What? Even with JPG the differences are quite obvious Neutral
- Look at just about any texture; the tree to the left is a good example. Not smeared out with MLAA. Same on the texture on the house to the left for example, or the chimney to the right.
- Same tree's shadow
- All the trees/bushes a bit further away; blurred like crazy with FXAA.

Might give this a go for when there's no MSAA, as it seems to work relatively well. Even the shitty JPG images above show exactly what I've said before though; FXAA just fucks with everything, including things it shouldn't fuck with (textures), as that's in the algorithm's nature. That's why I personally don't like it.

Yes, just choose save as option and make sure you have quicktime codec installed or quicktime alternative Smile

But werelds is it usable in its current form? As in a simple dll that you drop in the games folder and you activate it? Or we gotta wait for someone to implement it like that...

@Spaj i did try that but i only got a 29mb file :S

It's much faster and has better quality.

I call it LumaSharpen :

Probably not as good as SMAA, but worth mentioning.

Gave the link to a friend of mine and he just tested with skyrim. Basically he couldn't notice the performance difference between this and fxaa.

To give you an idea, he plays at 1080p 4xmsaa forced Nvidia AO on quality + this smaa inject on now and his gameplay is smooth on a 560ti. He also uses ultra (shadows on 2048 tho i think) + some ini tweaks for more grids to load/more grass distance etc.

So my guess is it's pretty close. You could also just test it out yourself Razz

PS : There's 1 thing i'm wondering about though. Does the "download" link from the other guy's blog contain the latest code for it? I'm guessing the SMAA 4x is gonna own even better. Basically is it t2x or x1?

There is less blur because there is significantly less AA as well. FXAA look a lot smoother and alias-less than this SMAA.

Not really. And considering that FXAA blurs the fuck out of textures compared to this new solution there's no point arguing really. Unless you prefer a total vaseline blur just to get rid of jaggies.

Isn't that the whole goddamn point to any sort of AA? Neutral

Yes, but i dont think completely blurring the textures as well was part of the initial point.

i rather have a little bit a blurry then jagged edges tbh.

But i guess that just comes down to personal taste.

Learn to read warnings, it's still under heavy development Wink

Which parts aren't anti-aliased that should be anti-aliased then? Things like trees/bushes/fences where FXAA just goes "this shit is too finely detailed - fuck that, smear it"? If that's what you mean, then it's a matter of preference. I for one hate the vaseline; it's FXAA that causes most of it and then you can often enable motion blur on top of it Neutral

I don't use the FXAA inject and the only game where I really kept MLAA enabled (through the driver) because it worked well was Dead Space 2 (the scenes in that game are perfect for post AA because they're boring and bland Razz). If I can, I still use MSAA. I'll take the FPS hit if it means I can avoid the vaseline.

Looks more blurry than MLAA and FXAA to me? Not such a fan of even more blur. SSAA still looks best to me but you should have with a 50% performance decrease
