I think the issue is with the cloud sync. The games that use it won't launch since it's trying to sync with the cloud and gets stuck there. Same thing when you try to exit Steam.

Edit: The problem was present yesterday closer to midnight for me and I only updated Steam in the morning today, so I am not sure it's the update itself that is at fault.

Sounds more like a server issue rather than patch then. Went offline till they sort it out.

It's not the the first and will not be the last time that this shit is happening.
I usually play games using a "DRM free version" and not with the originals Steam (which I own), but last month I've played a little more with Skyrim Steam, and this happened at least three of four times.
It's their cloud service the culprit, I think. And it pisses me.

It is their cloud service. I started up my PC this morning, and couldn't play online, and all my catagories were gone. I then checked for updates, and was surprised to find out there was an update on the 4th of Jan, and then the previous client update was in December. So, yeah, definitely not an update, since it hadn't updated yet. It also hung on "syncing with cloud".

Also, let's not get confused between DRM and cloud service.

I can confirm the sync issue. My Steam got stuck in sync loop when I tried to quit it around midnight.

what do you mean by categories being gone?

i did an update but havent noticed anything yet :/

i dunno, like... 20 hours ago i couldnt launch any games, but i think that was because the steam servers were fucked, so i launched my games offline. but now, ive put steam back online and havent noticed any problems logging out or launching games, so maybe whatever problem there was when this thread was made, has been fixed by now?

My favourites list is... well, buggered. It's removed all the Steam games from Favourites, but left the non-Steam game shortcuts in there.

It's a hardware failure. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=28279597&postcount=371

Yeah, I only use Favourites to distinguish between games I have installed and want to play soon, and games I have installed and will play sometime in the future. Very Happy
