Vivec Entertainment has just released the debut trailer for their first person survival horror Shadow Of A Soul. While we are adamant to remain skeptical, it does give us the same creepy first impressions that Amnesia: The Dark Descent’s first trailers did.
Shadow Of A Soul is a planned trilogy which is due to kick off with the release of Chapter 1 just before next Halloween, or October 24th 2012 to be precise. The game is a first person survival horror which will immediately cause people to measure it against the best indie in the genre – Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It’s a very harsh thing to have compare a debut game from an unknown developer agaianst what is arguably a survival horror masterpiece, but Shadow Of A Soul is holding up surprisingly well. Ferzan Kanat Aygen, the man who runs Vivec Entertainment, certainly knows how to incite a fright in us, as you can see in the trailer. He has been working on the game for about a year now and confirms that there will be between 12-16 hours of gameplay, he also adds:
“For me, Shadow of a Soul is all about creating the creepiest, and most shocking gaming experience. The goal of Chapter 1 is to dig the foundations for the following two chapters while telling a satisfying story in its own right.”
Like Frictional Games’ masterpiece, Shadow Of A Soul will have its players solving puzzles and searching for clues to uncover the game’s mysteries while hiding from various manifestations of ghosts. If it can tap into that vulnerability that made so many people squeal in Amnesia, then we might be on to something here. The summation of the first chapter only fuels are hopes further as it describes not so much a physical threat as much as a psychological threat – our favorite kind.
“Chapter I’s story revolves around a thief named Jack who is on an industrial espionage mission to steal blueprints of a new product. However, as he makes his way into the office complex he discovers that not everything about this place is what it appears to be. As unnatural sounds and horrifying visions begins to unravel before his eyes, Jack begins to have an unnerving feeling that he has become the target of malignant presence and he isn’t allowed to leave…just yet. Jack’s terrifying journey will lead him to mysterious encounters that will leave their marks on his mind as well as his flesh.”

If you are interested in Shadow Of A Soul you can pre-order the game from Aygen’s site for $15.99, which is 20 percent off the total price. Those who pre-order will also get a producer credit and three soundtracks from the game. Shadow Of A Soul will be released on PC and Mac in 2012 and on PS3 in 2013. It seems that it will be available on Steam as well, considering that “Steam achievements” are mentioned.
