Summary: Codemaster's drastically underpaid around ~70 of their employees. For Christmas, they laid everyone off and gave them a nice parting bonus (not enough to compensate for the unpaid overtime, but enough for the people to walk away feeling that they didn't get stiffed).

Come New Years, Codemaster's is sending everyone letters asking for the money back, because they accidentally paid everyone an extra month's salary. When employees refuse, they threaten legal action.

You can read the entire drama here, complete with screenshots of emails and scans of letters:

I'm afraid Codies will win that case. It really sucks for the employees, but it looks that the law is on Codemasters side.

I'll vent here instead of there since I'm basically pissing into a fan at either spot. What a bunch of weak ased pricks the codemasters workers appear to be.

Still like so many of their generation they have lapped up the lie that humans function best as individuals so we can't really blame them. They just too credulous is all.

Of course these assrasps who run codematers are gonna keep shitting on their staff n gettin away with it, why wouldn't they?
As long as everyone who gets screwed runs off and does their own thing without any attention to reality codemasters are gonna be fine.

The only way workers can successfully confront organised capital is by organising themselves.
Sure they won't get the result that conforms most to their dream of what they believe should happen, because the ultimate goal of mass action must be a meld of what all the participants want as an outcome, but they will get a much better result than they would if they continue to operate as individuals.
Most importantly, codemasters will think long & hard about pulling the same stunt again if they run up against real organised resistance.

However tough it is to organise yourselves now, it was much tougher and considerably more dangerous 150 years ago at the start of large workplaces, when people first successfully resisted the bully tactics of organised capital.

Back then peeps may not have had student loans & credit cards to pay off but the odds were high that they had borrowed from some local loanshark to pay the recruiter a months salary (the cost of getting a job) plus enough to buy work clothes n gear and fed yerself until you got yer first pay.

Visa or Rabobank might be assholes to owe to but they do doesnt hold a candle to the socipathic thuggery which banking's 'founding fathers' used to get up to.

Resisting these scum is always tough, but nothing will change in gaming until some game development staff work out that strength through unity means more than just a cliche outta the mouth of a big union parasite.

As if making bad games wasn't enough, now they're even acting like complete douchebags. The employees have all my moral support but I fear it won't end up good for them.

How are you supposed to safe your dignity with ninja edits, when the forum keeps track of that? Laughing
