So I had pain in my stomach last Weds, admitted into hospital Thurs, appendix removed Friday, back home Sunday and I'm in pain. The pain isn't really that bad, just annoying. The worst thing is I have a cough and it really does hurt when coughing!

The surgeon said it was "quite manky" and that I must have been in a lot of pain the few days before it was removed - Which I was!

I had some Tramadol in the hospital, that was quite a good drug.

Anyone had their appendix removed?

Tooth pain can be bad.

What painkillers are you on? I only have paracetamol and ibuprofen Sad

Metronidazole antibiotic combined with codeine phosphate (or heavy loads of ibuprofen, like 2-3 pills at a time). And it still hurts. And I'm pretty much stoned.

I had it removed in six grade. A little post op pain, but most of that was psychological, since I have a cousin who worked in the hospital I was admited to. The fucker told my surgeon to keep the appendix and put it in a jar right next to my bed.

I screamed like a little girl when I woke up and saw it next to me. Laughing

But if your cough is really bothering you, try turning your head sideways everytime you feel your gonna start coughing. It will relieve some of the pressure, and it shouldn't hurt as much.

Did you undergo a laparoscopic or a classic surgery? I recently had a laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair surgery. They punctured my belly on 4 places, approx. 5mm each hole. It wasn't a big deal. General anesthesia, 30 minutes of procedure, some mild nausea and a moderate pain couple of days after. I was released from hospital after 3 days. Smile

They made a cut about 6 inches long. The surgeon said he had to make it a bit bigger because it was quite bad.

From a letter I have: "had an open appendectomy... Free fluids and pus were found intra abdominally. A necrotic appendix with a retrocaecal abscess was exicsed."

6 inches? No wonder you still have a pain. Also, you were lucky after all. You described a nasty inflamed appendix. My cousin died after his appendix ruptured causing fatal sepsis. Sad

think that's bad? here's what i went through in 2007! Laughing

weekend somewhere in september: severe stomach pain, so i go to the doctor, she tells me its just food poinsoning, so i stock up on tea and zwieback
monday: still hurts, so i go to another doctor, he also tells me it's food poisoning, gives me some meds
monday evening: pain kinda goes away, i start calling friends and making plans for next few days since my boss gave me the week off
tuesday morning: i wake up because of a feeling resembling someone ripping open my belly with a chainsaw, turns out both doctors were idiots and my appendix ruptured overnight! (that's the tricky part with appendicitis, the pain goes away once the damn thing breaks and you start dying)
so...ambulance time! turns out my whole colon is fucked, kindeys too so multi organ failure right there, motherfucking sepsis is along for the ride too of course. 2x 5 hour surgeries within 3 days (~10 inch cuts), intensive care, and a whole lot of getting told in a really nice way that i should be dead by now Laughing + hallucinations, paranoia (because of insomnia, couldn't sleep at all with 10 tubes sticking out of my body), at least i had a good time thx to a shitload of morphine

few days later i manage to do a "test shit" (=colon finally working again), actually i shat a whopping 113 (yes i counted, had nothing better to do) times withing the next few days because of a weird mix between antibiotica allergy and that laxative they gave me to get my colon running, while bed-ridden of course so make that 114 bed-pan shits in total, they even put a male student nurse on standby just to scoop my shit Laughing TAKE THAT ROFL MAO

soon after that, i'm pain-free (asshole still hurting tho from the acidic colon juices), the grumpiest nurse in the world finally pulls the catheter out of my dick, that 15cm tube stuck in my aorta from my neck, stomach tube from my nose (got that one as a sort of revenge plot from the nurses on the second day cause i was uncontrollably puking over the bed all the time Laughing ) and various other tube crap from my belly and wrists. had to learn to walk again and most importantly, finally got my cellphone back, which was of course full of pissed off messages from friends and 2 dates because i never showed up to the stuff i had planned for my "work-free week". at least i had a good excuse this time Very Happy

tl;dr: GOD HATES ME

Yup got it removed when i was 12..Perforated and everything, the doc says I was about 2 hours from death. Worst part was they initially wanted to wait on surgery to get some further tests back. Thankfully they didnt. I was admitted for over a week after that as well cause I had so much puss and stuff from the bursted appendix floating around me Sad

8 out of 10 dentists prefer zipfero to competing brands(fraich3 and Mutantius)!

Ah to be in the US. My inguinal hernia repair (about 10 years ago) was outpatient. So in the hospital around 9am, and out before 3:30pm. I was back at school (university) the day after. Then again, we kick new moms and babies out after 24 hours now...make them bring the baby back after a few days for the blood screening tests for genetic diseases as an outpatient.
