You won't need these but it will make the Media center experience much better.

* Use wide TFT TV instead of a pc monitor
* Use a remote controller like the "ATI remote wonder"
* Use a wireless keyboard and mouse
* A desktop/dvd player or a barebone chassi is preferred

Dunno if this is a practical solution but I'd recommend just getting a modded xbox and xbmc. You can play stuff on your TV, it's relatively cheap and it has more features than any media player on the market.

If u are intending to watch the movies you have on the PC then just buy a TV-Out set... It's way cheaper then to get the total Media Center Experience...

I have to agree with Mutantius and dryan, windows media center is designed to display media on a large screen with a limited interface (although it does have a typical windows shell its not strictly meant to be used). You can download appllications that give you the media center experience without installing an entire OS devoted to it, this is much easier on Linux, but as it seems your running windows I suggest you check out the following:

Media Portal : http://sourceforge.net/projects/mediaportal/ | http://mediaportal.sourceforge.net/

Meedio: http://www.meedio.com/

There was another that I found very good, however it has slipped my mind, I will check my PC once I get home and post its name.
