Oh no Sad Look how they massacred my boy...

The sun rises on another civil war, as you land in Japan aboard a battered Dutch ship. Thrust into command of its motley crew, you must navigate the politics of Sengoku-era Japan using stealth, diplomacy, or violence in this party-based RPG where every choice matters.

Cheap mobile-like aesthetics and co-op focus Okay

Then again, after the original team split and many of the devs lost their minds with the daft NFT craze, there wasn't much hope left for the franchise anyway. It was good until it lasted, with Viking being my personal favourite.

I forgot about that. Still astounds me how such a seemingly talented team could be so easily swayed by such bullshit. What's the latest on them? Have they lost everything yet? Laughing

Rome was great, very addictive combat system. I'll have to remember giving Vikings another go. I believe I quit when at the start of the second part, you're forced to use your secondary team which I had completely neglected, effectively softlocking me in the first fight Laughing

The numbers don't decide, the system is a lie. The river running dry, the wings of butterflies.
And you may pour us away like soup. Like we're pretty broken flowers.
We'll take back what is ours. One day at a time.

Rome has higher production values (better visuals, fully voiced dialogues, more polished combat system), though when I finished the game last year it did outstay its welcome a bit in the last area and the extra-mundane legionary battles lost their appeal pretty quickly. Viking sadly suffers from Unity-ian jank, but it's more cRPG-y so to speak, also in terms of depth and impactful C&C systems in place. Still, they're both greatly enjoyable and very much worth playing. Conquistador is interesting too, albeit that one feels a tad primitive compared to the sequels.

@Immunity: their new studio (Dynasty Studios) shows as permanently closed, so it looks like everything went exactly as expected Laughing

Damn, I was just about to write that Rome was very good, and now this crap...? Only to learn by reading above that the original team is now gone. RIP franchise.
