Lately I've been having this strange craving for a non-action fantasy RPG, problem is I can't find anything that I haven't played a lot of already. I've played plenty of King's bounty, HOMAM, the last remnant. Maybe there are some games that I missed though? Any ideas are welcome Smile

There are many good srpgs on consoles/emulators if you dont mind japanese games (but since you mentioned last remnant i assume you dont) as said above fire emblem games are quite good on gc/wii they can be played very well with dolphin, on ps2 there are the nippon ichi games disgaea, phantom brave etc all play very nice on pcsx2, many other games on older systems like shining force on gen final fantasy tactics on psx/psp (there is a great fan made patch on http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?PHPSESSID=c3i8l6akfenmi2c39ud2giki93&board=18.0 for the psx version), another tip from me is Kamidori Alchemy Meister for pc with the translation patch its a srpg/vn hybrid with an addicting alchemy system just googel it, there is also the translated sengoku rance if you havent played it allready kamidori and rance contain a few hentai scenes so be prepared.

Thanks for the tips, already played disgaea, will check out fire emblem and Kamidori Alchemy Meister. It's a pity The Last Remnant is so unique, I don't even know of any other mid-scale (i.e. bands of 15-30 characters) turn-based storydriven tactical RPGs Smile

Damn, why do most of these games have to be so old or hentai-based? Anyway, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn seems to work well with Dolphin and is quite recent, will give it a try.

Tbh its not really a popular genre nowadays, derps think turn based = boring, im a big fan od turnbased combat in rpgs/srpgs so this really bothers me aside from Valkyria Chronicles and maybe the latest disgaea there wasnt mutch released in the last few years on home consoles/pc that interested me.
on portables there are a few games like the great Devil Survivor and a few other games but im not really that interested in portable games.
btw i would give kamidori a chance the hentai scenes dont make a large part of the game and it will likely be a few hours bevore you even encounter some the gameplay is truly outstanding.

Ok, downloaded 2 Fire emblem games for Wii and will give kamidori a shot. I don't dislike hentai in general, just no fan of it in games - but hey, maybe I'll change my mind after kamidori.

hentai? what? Where did that come from?

Oh and you might check out fantasy wars and elven legacy - great turn based strategy games, like the old fantasy general only new.

Yep fantasy general was great, remember playing that a long while back. As for elven legacy and fantasy wars, I felt that most of the difficulty came from the unforgiving turn limits - that's kind of a turn-off for me, but some might like it.

this. just be prepared for a giant dungeon slog after the first 3 or 4 hours of gameplay. I wish they'd have made more D&D games!

Fire Emblem as already mention above, I played the Wii version (Radiant Path) last year and really enjoyed it, but there was no character progression in the New Game+ which was disappointing, if you like games such as Disagaea etc. If you have a box or a ps3 console Resonance of Fate was good too.

Ive played though ToEE a couple of times over the years and just installed it again a week ago (while waiting for LoG). Its still my favorite combat engine and I just love the 3.5 dd rules implemented.
While the temple do get old quick, the Co8 mod pack have some pretty nice new areas to explore (before AND after the temple).

True that. The Co8 mod is probably one of the most impressive mods i've played for any game. It does however ramp up the difficulty so i dunno if i'd recommend it for a first timer. Vanilla ToEE can be hard enough at times!

I don´t find it harder than BG or IWD, but most of the fun in turn based strategic combat is that the combats are hard and you have to try and try again to find the right combo.
There is a guide on the Co8 website that explains in what order the areas should be played - I recommend following that as a first timer. Just don´t vanilla it!
Pro-tip: Easy mode in this game, is low level area effect spells and charm person.
Oh ya and make use of that you can actually play REAL EVIL in this game!

come on now its way harder than BG. The natural progression is to go from Hommlet to Nulb (after moathouse) yes? Outside of Nulb in the swamp is a very difficult encounter with a giant crayfish and some sort of cleric/witch troll thing IIRC. I was maybe level 2 or 3 and had trouble. Im not saying i didnt have great fun defeating this encounter but some might find it frustrating. AFAIK this encounter is much easier in vanilla. cheers fellow ToEE lover Very Happy

sorry if thread derailed
