Malware, viruses, etc. are all user errors. If you know your shit you don't get any.

edit: Sorta like STD's.

Yes, yes I'm back.

Try explaining that to someone.

Typical conversation with family member -

Them: I think I have a virus.
Me: Sigh. What did you click/download/what was the last site you were on?
Them: I didn't click or download anything. It happened by itself. I'm not stupid!

And the sad part is, they will maintain their innocence time and time again, vehemently, like their life depended on it. Not only that, once you explain the most likely cause to them and tell them what not to do in the future, you can bet their ass they'll be back again.

I can't imagine what my buddy goes through running a PC repair shop - I'd last about a day before I'd be too tempted to bitch slap the stupid out of a customer. Very Happy

I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

In my case i didnt download or go to any dodgy sites, only thing i was dling was Take on Helicopters Razz for like a fucking week. Im 100% sure i didnt let it in in any way, maybe my mother did, but shes so scared of files and sites, that i doubt she moved out of facebook and hotmail.

Anyways its fixed, and my pc is back to normal, didnt do any damage like in huxanomaly's case. used Trojan Killer, seemed kind of fishy, but it worked correctly.

Browser security hole or such maybe, probably what you were thinking of with that java update, visit some site that was infected and get a little spyware crap that way via some self installing program, normally that shouldn't be possible via browser security settings and other protections active but now and again it can happen, especially on older OS's or so is my belief since I clean my parents computer of weird stuff every now and again. Razz
(Where the hell did that toolbar come from and why is there two new anti virus programs? that sort of stuff, sometimes a bit worse.)

Well oracle just recently! fixed a big hole in Java, so that you could get a virus, just by visiting the wrong side, or if they were able to inject their java code into an ad somewhere on an else trusted webpage! To be honest, I'm always surfing with disabled java.

In opera enter the following in your adress bar and press enter:
about:plugins
And disable anything that you find unneccessary (I left the plugin for windows media player, esn sonar for battlelog and shockwave flash. Blocked all the other crap incl. java).
