First Screenshots For New FPRPG From Planescape: Torment & Fallout II Designer/Producer
G3 Studios shared with us the first screenshots of Deathfire: Ruins of Nethermore; a first-person, party-based role-playing game that features turn-based combat, with a focus on the story and character development. Developed by fully independent developer and publisher G3 Studios in Southern California, and spearheaded by veteran game designer/producer Guido Henkel (Planescape: Torment, Realms of Arkania Trilogy, Fallout II, etc.), the game is currently in its early stages of development and is currently scheduled for release in 2014.
The key features of Deathfire: Ruins of Nethermore are:
-Single player, first person role-playing game
-Party-based play (four player-, plus two non-player characters)
-Six races and eight classes to choose from
-Over 34 unique character traits, plus base attributes
-Party characters interact with each other
-Turn-based combat
-Indoor and outdoor environments
-Interactive game world
-Recipe-based crafting and enchanting
-Involving, adaptive storyline with many key players and twists
-Factions for intriguing political set-ups
-Tons of monsters to battle
-Intelligent dialogue system
The team has also launched the official website for this title, so make sure to visit it if you’re interested in such old-school RPGs.

Looks and sounds nice, despite the abysmal title choice. I'll be defo kepping an eye on this one.

First person party-based role-playing game with turn-based combat you say? Well, that should look interesting. I'll keep an eye on this one.

"it's an alpha"
"it's a beta"
"patches will fix the retail"
Frankly, I've heard it all before.

I understand the concern, sabin. Maybe most of the issues are fixed in the final release.
Nowadays, I hardly buy games on release day.

It's not just the technical side (which is terrible) but the gameplay too, it's incredibly streamlined from the previous titles, like the devs just decided to wholesale copy Legend of Grimrock and not actually put any effort into it. I'm hoping it improves on launch but egh.. not holding my breath.

Kickstarter is up, with such promising pledge tiers as:
Quote: | Pledge $500 or more
0 backers
NETHERMANCER EDITION—Previous tier reward, plus the ability to play a NETHERMANCER CLASS IN THE GAME! This class is available only to Kickstarter backers at this level and higher! |
Fuck you, Henkel.

It's okay guys, it's okay!! The developers heard your comments and have proposed a solution! Everyone will get a taste of being a Nethermancer 2-3 times over the course of the game via an in-game item that charges up as you play, then you can activate it and become the Nethermancer for a limited time before the charge runs out and you return to normal. SO AWESOME! BACKING THIS RIGHT NOW, TAKE MY HOME!
Cunts. I hope this KS fails and I hope the loser that started it goes bankrupt. Charging $500 for a fucking IN GAME CLASS is despicable and this kind of behaviour needs to be cut out like a cancer before it infects the rest of Kickstarter.

"And speaking of the Nether Bursa and the Nethermancer, I wanted to let you all know that we have removed the NETHERMANCER EDITION from our reward tiers. If you’ve been following the comments section, you have probably heard that this reward did not sit well with many backers, as they felt that we were withholding content from all other backers. This was not our intention at all, of course, and therefore, that tier is available no more."

Well that's more like it. We don't need that kind of evil in KickStarter, which was supposed to get away from publishers and that kind of nasty practice. Whether it's a "gimmick" or not, locking classes behind reward tiers is just not acceptable.

Maybe Henkel isn't the brightest jewel in the crown but he have done good jobs in the past and he deserves a chance to prove himself capable.

Well, that certainly looks interesting, clean visuals too considering the low budget. If they manage to implement all the ambitious features from the first post, it will be a fantastic game. It's not an easy task though.
