Heya people.
I've got quite a lot of different stuff running and some more desktops would be very welcome. I don't need anything fance, just more space for open windows. I've tried mdesktop but it has a bad habbit of making my icons dissappear. Any one got another nice little program?

I only really have space on my desk for one more monitor so that isn't really a possibility. I tend to be rather messy with articles and stuff. I still have atleast 1500 eur I can burn on electronics though so maybe in the future.

No you can't. You still need a pager, which, by the way is what the OP was asking for. a pager is a utility that creates virtual desktops (And if you have multiple monitors you can even customize the configs for some pagers that allow you to use different virtual desktops on each different monitor.
It never ceases to amuse me how many people offer posts that are non-sequitur and completely NOT what the person asking for help wanted - basically, those folks are posting just to see themselves post, IMNSHO, and offer little, if nothing in the way of constructive support.
Anyway, aside from the fact that dingo_d's post was just plain silly, an excellent pager that works across Win NT3.5/NT4//2k/XP/Server 2008/7/8 is Dexpot.
Dexpot is free and you can download it here: http://dexpot.de/
It's very feature rich with all those kewl little Compbiz type effects such as fades, wipes, cubes, etc., it you're so inclined - but the best feature is that you can set it for say, 10 virtual desktops, have some apps on all of the desktops, some on just one, and always have a free and clear desktop to switch to where you can launch yet another application.
The one thing I would say you need to pay attention to is making sure you check each virtual desktop and close your apps before downing or rebooting your box. It's so easy to forget about that term paper you haven't saved and then... uh oh!
Dexpot has been around quite a while and really is phenomenal, stable, and easy to use.
I hope that helps
Kindest regards,
.

Not silly, I went from 1 to 3 monitors a while back..before I had to move things all the time to see other things..now I got more room than I know what to do with, can have 10 things open and STILL have outlook, my work RDP, work gotoassist, vonage for work, and skype..and room to browse the web if bored during it.
So outside the scope of the request? maybe..'silly' as its not a solution..bullcrap.
As with 3 monitors, I couldnt ever see the need for multiple desktops, if I got so much stuff running I cant see something, I need to close some crap, not page it over to 3 more screens...
