Mari0

  • Official web page: LINK
  • Genre: Platformer
  • Release date: March 3, 2012
  • Story/Description:

    Quote:
A complete from scratch recreation of Super Mario Bros. with a focus on perfectly imitating the feel the 1985 classic gave us. Then give Mario a portal gun, add puzzle game mechanics from Portal and there you go. And if that wasn't crazy enough, play 4-player coop, with everyone having their own Portal gun!

    Quote:
The core game of Mari0 plays directly from the 8-bit Super Mario Bros. 2D platform game, where the player controls Mario via the keyboard, running and jumping through levels, avoiding or jumping on enemies to defeat them, while collecting coins to earn points towards their score. The game adds the concept of the "portal gun" from the Portal series; the player can click with the mouse device on two separate surfaces on the level to create a portal between them. This can be used for a number of gameplay options, often using vertical momentum entering one portal to "fling" the Mario character horizontally out of the other portal, but will also affect enemies and other game elements in similar manners.

The core game uses the level designs from the original Super Mario Bros. as well as sets of test chambers inspired by Portal's Aperture Science, but a level editor, along with different graphic sets and shaders are provided to create new content. Up to four players can cooperatively play in the game.[4] Online multiplayer is to be released in a future version.

That's going to be shut down so fast by Nintendo, I fear. If only because of the level designs being from the original SMB. Sad

Nice trailer - The Wizard, a Nintendo commercial in the form of a full length movie shown in the cinema, but the first time Super Mario Bro's 3 was shown to the public.
As has been pointed out by Pixieking, theres so many copyright violations here that it's easier to count where there isn't a copyright violation, than where there is. This won't have a long and healthy life.

The Wizard? A Nintendo themed movie starring Fred Savage, Luke Edwards, and Jenny Lewis? How did I miss this thing? A must see!

I used to be pretty good at this game, but that was before they added that gun, most deaths were due to misusing the effects of that thing but I had fun. Very Happy

It looks like and strives to look like the 80's NES (Famicon?) version, no doubt the later ports by Nintendo have had all sorts of enhancements even outside the actual remakes of the game on newer consoles like the Snes and GameBoy for example or current Wii re-releases. Smile

EDIT: In fact it looks near identical and uses the same art maybe, even sounds are original, bit of a legal issue should Nintendo go after them I guess since that would give them troubles but since it's been out since March without anything happening maybe they don't care though I imagine they just don't know about it.
