Add REX,GEX and a few other goodies to FSX and it virtually looks the same.Considering flight is going to be Windows Live game I see a lot of hard core simulation fans sticking with FSX over this.A good deal of FS9 and FSX users fly on Vatsim or offline. They are not going to want to be connected to live just to play.I also wonder if Flight is going to allow freeware modding like all the former FS titles did. With the age of DLC crap,I doubt it.It has great potential but there are a lot of negative factors. If that's the case I am perfectly fine in sticking with FSX.

Windows Live can't be any worse than that Gamespy horseshit. The gamespy FSX lobby is f'n horrible. And next to useless. It'd be nice to have a proper server browser that doesn't A) boot you out of the lobby randomly and B) with sorting and/or filtering that actually works.
As for the rest, hard to say. There has been next to zero information actually released. A few screenshots and some useless quick video clips. It would be nice if they'd release some more f'n info about the thing. I've tried email but, of course, they don't answer it - only receive it. We'll see I guess
i prefer to fly above liberty city, at list there is ai life under and things happening and buildings don't look like boring 3d grey boxes.
go for it then. Some of us would rather at least have *some* similarity to how a real aircraft behaves.
don't get me wrong, i used to be and i am still big fun of realistic flight sims but i hate to see 2011 sim with graphic worst than 2004.
looking glass studios did great job back in the late 90's with flight unlimited titles, but unfortunately they didn't sorvive the market:( also DID for combat sims like the legendary super ef 2000.
If they wanted to have extremely realistic looking graphics, it would be more down to space issues than rendering capacity. IIRC x-planes did this. It had amazingly detailed landscapes, but it came at the cost of having the sim on several DVDs.
Hell, a sufficiently moded FSX takes up half of an average HDD.
Not to mention that really good graphical updates are payware that I'm quite confident Microsoft gets a nice cut out of. It's better for everyone if they stick to the basics. We won't have to spend a day swapping discs just to install the program and we can buy/pirate packs we want for ourselves.
thats why i was talking about gta 4, it's small map with alot of details and it is fun to fly around the city even with no meaning.
i prefer small but realistic map on full glob with low textures, but again, this is me.
p.s, never tested the x-plane, but now i am going to tray:)
Too bad FSX is fucked up on my GTS450 (if I put random scenery above medium the whole screen gets glitched). I might have been flying my jet from SanFran to NYC if not for that damn bug. And FSX was one of the main reasons why I bought it...should have researched it before...
yes, fsx was a complete gfx, resource hog... ran shitty on even the nest computers at the time.
It can STILL bring a modern system to it's knees if everything is cranked. I'm hoping that this new one will be much better optimized. I wonder if they'll show anything at E3. At least give some real info.
As for the guys that just want pretty graphics and compare this to GTA4.... Take On Helicopters will probably be what you're looking for. Smaller areas, higher detail. And about as "sim" as the aircraft in ARMA are.

Looks good, especially the realism of the effects.
At 1:03-1:05 look at the front most mountains. The textures look awful (like the water texture too) and the terrain detail is horrible too. Imagine that in another time of day setting
Great atmosphere, the lighting has been improved a lot if compared to FSX, more natural and realistic (the cockpit view is quite impressive). A new PC will be required for this beauty though

PumpAction picks apart the textures. They didn't bother me. But I hope the fonts they're using for the radios in this "webisode" are just placeholders
I wonder with all the flying around Hawaii if that's where the default airport will be in this version.

Where there any community made Combat Flight Sim addons for the previous FS games after the last MS-made CFS was released?
Not really. There were combat aircraft designed of course. Some even had releasable external loads. But no combat that I'm aware of. And even if there was it'd be a fucked up kludge like half the addons for FSX
Visually it looks pretty much like FS9/FSX, with a bit of tweaking here and there. The dawn/dusk lighting is still poor,it's much better done in X-Plane and even in FlightGear(which is freeware and looks crap but the lighting )
I hope the graphics wasn't their main concern though and they improved aircraft physics, weather simulation and added something like proper engine/systems damage. Or am I dreaming?

Dreaming? Probably. We'll see though.
All I want out of it is proper helicopter simulation. And ATC that can properly handle IFR procedures.
Why are we discussing this game so soon? I mean, even if it gets released tomorrow, it'll be 3-4 years before we can properly enjoy it, after having enough money to spend on upgrades.
