Quote:

Mafia 3 is in development for Xbox 720 (codename Durango) and PlayStation 4.

That's according to the 2K insiders close to Eurogamer.cz, who claim the next chapter in the gangster series will release at the end of 2013.
The 2K Czech sequel was originally planned for Xbox 360 and PS3, the report claims, but the studio decided to switch development over to next-gen consoles last summer.

The Mafia II dev is also rumoured to be contributing to the development of Grand Theft Auto V in the animation area.

2K Games has yet to comment on the rumour.

RIP GTA and Mafia. Dumb idea to use the people responsible for the Mafia2 fiasco.

Neat, though it doesn't mention the PC at all so we'll see what platforms it's released on I guess, might just be the next-gen consoles.

Hah yeah that's true since I guess they won't exactly use the most high-end hardware though on the other hand the performance is said to be much better due to architecture differences and such although as long as they're better than what's currently available / on par with the WiiU it's still a improvement on this current situation, just that it'll take a while for them to be released so we can finally move on without those hardware limitations.
(Wouldn't really be a issue ideally but it's rare for each platform to get a game that takes full advantage of it's hardware, usually it's just one code path optimized across all platforms or how to say it, at least the upcoming WiiU will boost things a bit until the PS and X-Box follow.)

I thought it was good. OK, it was not as good as the original and the ending sucked, but I enjoyed it.

It wasn't just not as good as the original, it was essentially a completely different genre altogether. The original was an open world game in the vein of GTA (and the best ever GTA clone). Mafia 2 was basically just a 3rd person shooter with a few driving bits.

WUT

In Mafia 1 you couldn't even drive around the city, unless you selected a separate MODE for it. It wasn't a GTA clone, you had 21 very linear missions with no ability to drive around the city in between them. And all you did in Mafia 1 was drive all the time.

Mafia 2 introduced the freeroam aspect between missions, which actually made it more into a GTA clone.

Mafia I is still one of my favourite games. It was ahead of it's time in the story department. The soundtrack was superb and the gameplay was as realistic as possible considering the genre at the time.

The second one had so much promise. I especially liked the soundtrack and the winter chapters of the game, mainly due the overall atmosphere from the fantastic visuals of the city. Otherwise it was a huge flop for every fan of the first game.

Even if the rumor is true if it's done by the same team, I'll be really surprised for anything more than what we saw in the second game.

In a completely dead world, lacking any atmosphere whatsoever, 5 times as big as Mafia 1 but with at the same speeds. Yeah, definitely better lol wut

Mafia 2 was a massive disappointment. For a 2010 game it was just fucking terrible (despite the game-enhancing and ever-fulfilling PhysX/ApeX lol wut) and as a sequel it failed to deliver on every front. The facial animations were even worse than in Mafia 1, which completely destroyed the story telling part of the game - which is the one thing that made Mafia. The only good thing about it was the fucking voice acting, which like I said, was negated by the lack of any facial animations (or just decent animations in general).

Nope, not getting my hopes up for it this time.

I liked Mafia 2, but the problem was, the first one was so much better.

It had better story, missions, characters, music and gameplay.. so yeah, overall it was a big disappointment for me too. Sad

Also the long development cycle (which led to dated visuals /facial animations like Paul said), and the fact that they removed tons of stuff from the initial concept heavily contribute to fuel my anger. I Am Disappoint Honestly, I don't know what to think about this one...

I loved the ending of Mafia 2, so much better than the done to death er, death of protagonist ending which was present in Mafia and the gunplay was solid and weighty.
Other than those 2 things, Mafia was the better game.

1 and 2 are still amazing.

felt the same way. Had a lot of fun in m2 too though. And loved the tie-in with m1. Since i didnt pay for it, i thought it was a good game Laughing

I m looking forward to m3 in the hopes that they ll make it more like m1 or come up with something that is better than m2. But i ll take anything in the mafia setting that is at least somewhat enjoyable and enjoy the fuck out of it Very Happy

I just hope they don't try too hard to compete with GTA. I would be perfectly happy with a game as linear as Mafia 1 if it helps the story.
