I work at a small uni in America. The new school year just started. I am asking the people of the EU. Is everyone this stupid??!!! Every year it seems the kids keep getting dumber and dumber. The culture of America has dumbed down the people so much(Apple and the media) that they can't think for themselves. I see a bunch of mindless kids that believe everything they see or hear. Maybe I am getting old but I like to figure things out myself. I don't go blindly asking questions and when shown the answer just give a blank stare and say "OK" without asking why.

I sometimes get the same feeling ( about myself though Razz) and i believe it's due to the fact most people nowadays have knowledge at their fingertips i.e. wiki / online documentation / dictionaries that sort of thing. There was a time when my spelling was flawless in english (not my first language), but with all the dictionaries and the spellcheckers around i don't even feel the need to try and learn the spelling of more complicated words. My spelling example is probably not the worst case around, considering that people/students now have easy access to already done projects on most university subjects so they don't need to do most (if any) of the research themselves.

Sure, some people can't even figure out how to google shit properly, but you could say in some ways technology makes it easier for us to grow dumber.

P.S. There's loads of stupid people over here as well, and i especially despise the ones that manage to memorize the entire class, pass the exam with a really high grade, and then fail to understand the most basic principles. Had one chick in my uni that was a straight A student, but had trouble grasping Pythagoras' theorem (and yes, i wiki'd the name Razz), which is just Confused

yeah, well, use it at your advantage.

I have the same feeling. People want to be fooled, people belief the first convincing story they hear etc.

Basically, the world keeps spinning because people assume people are critical of the things you say and you assume you cannot talk shit all the time. But once you know it, well, have fun.

You wouldn't belief the shit you can pull off and the shit you get away with when you realize other people have nu clue as well. I've given presentations on subject i know basically nothing about to students. Have a convincing story, nice pics, some details and they will eat from your hand.

People don't get dumber, they have always been this dumb. How do you think the 30yr old keep scooring 18yo chicks? It has been going on for centuries. Scammers have existed since the dawn of days, must have been a bunch of stupid people since the dawn of days i;d say.

My wife works at one of major polish university and I can assure you, you are not alone in your feeling. In Poland public universities got their money based on the amount of student they have. So right now she tells me that there are examples of people that can't even spell their name properly or have to be taught the basics of grammar on linguistic majors.
So in other words, don't worry it's a world wide trend.

Well, here comes another story.

So i am teaching introduction to bioinformatics (perl, sql, algorithms etc) in 4th year bio-engineering students here at the university. You have to know, generally they have a very solid background in mathematics, physics, technical skills on computers etc, engineers after all. However, they don't get much programming in their curriculum. They know how to use statistical software, use matlab to do stuff, get some java to have a knowledge of programming etc.

In the bio informatics courses, for the first time, they have to use modules, write their own modules, process large datasets, process them to databases etc and write complete programs that function rather than some snippets to speed up calculation or some algo that fixes a very specific program. Long story short, for many people it is a difficult task.

There are always people who get things done faster and then there are some slower people. And then there's the bunch of retards who is convinced the 'compiler is wrong' Laughing compiler in perl... 'the hardware is malfunctioning', 'i am sure this is correct, but the answer is wrong' 'my program works, but it does not run due to syntax errors' etc. etc. I don't know where they get them retards, but obviously, if your program does not spit out the answer, it is not working. you can be close, you can have syntax errors, your program can crash, doesn't matter, it means your solution is not correct. And if the errors are minor, well just fix them...

Then they start discussing with me 'blablablbalala'. Usually they are so full of crap, u know those arrogant retarded 22 your old student with too much 'swag', so i have to go like 'well if you are sure it is correct, just write that on the exam'. Of course they do that on their exam... and get no points... and then complain ' you told me i should write it on my exam'. Well yeah 'i never told you, you'd get some points'. Arrhgh, some retarded people.

Well usually there are people in companies who only do coding, because CTOs know of the situation you are facing. So they match one coder and one non-computer engineer and they work together.

On technical university where I studied, only people from computer science had a descent programming skills (in both designing and coding software). The rest... either rudamentary or no skill at all.
