Hi there,
i am looking to do a budget - cost/performance efficient upgrade on my ages old system which is:
athlon x2 4400+ ,
asus mn2 e sli
4gb ddr2

to go with my (month new xD ) asus gtx 560 oc ii.. I am not expecting gaming miracles (the primary thing ill do with it all).. but i wish for at least firefall to run with a constant fps higher than 15 -.-

it was quite some time since i last looked into the hardware market.. and i was thinking about going with AMD (again) Sooo:

CPU - Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition.. it's way too old but.. its miles over my current cpu. The FX 4100, tho newer and less power consuming.. as i read - its an epic fail compared to it. Right ?

MB: The thing i am wondering about the most is for the motherboard (am3+): Here are some i thought of:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131767
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157280
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128519

No idea with what to go for here... Actually if there is something cheaper (priority) / similar to those.. im open to suggestions xD

I was thinking about Intel's cheapest i3 but.. still if i clock the BE it will be pretty similar - and also 4 cores -> 2 cores - thats if most of the games today make use of those cores right ?

any help will be appreciated :>

tbh skip AMD on the processor. seriously. even the fastest phenom is not fast enough. Get yourself any i5...It's worth it's money, the amd processors are not.

phenom is a good deal faster than what you have and is affordable. i5 is faster yes but its not like phenom is slow. my brother still runs his phenom 940 in BF3 and arma and has zero bottleneck issues.

hopefully trinity/piledriver is out soon to have some more choices besides going straight to i5

I have a fairly standard 6950 and my athlon II (which is not much slower than a phenom for gaming) is SUCH a bottleneck... Even old intel quads with 500mhz less than mine are much faster...

Agreed, AMD is way behind. Don't get why ppl still get AMDs.

This is coming from someone who used to very pro AMD, i didn't like Intel for whatever reason but had to give in because Intel had simply become the most bang for your buck.

i agree the gap has become quite big where one should rather shed out some more money to buy i5. hopefully upcoming piledriver will change this , the mobile versions without the L3 cache did quite better than bulldozer.
