Hi guise. I was using realtek for couple of years now and it works no problem. Connect headphones in a front panel and ready to go.

But I found my old audigy 2se somehow:P it works and have driver suppor for windows 7 with control panel in which I can set sampling rate to 96 and 24bit.
With audigy I just have to use splitter on the back to conenct headphones and speakers at the same time.

Which should I use ?Razz

Ha, I'm just about to put a similar topic up. Very Happy

Here are the specs for your onboard chip btw.. http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/productsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=28&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdID=44

I couldn't find the specs for your card from a quick Google search.

i gotta warn , audigy 2 and 4 series got serious issues in 64 bit OS.
prime example being the micrphone input cracking like crazy or just not working, its why i upgraded to ASUS and my brother bought USB based headset.

so audigy then?

I am using 2009 drivers from creative site. But heard something about unofficial drivers. worth it?

Also I am using 48KHZ default setting(instead of changing it to 96 -heard it can cause problems) and changed from 16bit to 24bit in audigy control panel. That's good right?

I used to had audigy 2 z or zs it was, but that was like 6 years ago or even more

i think newest motherboard that is from year 2009 maybe 2008 will have good enough onboard audio, it has come long way

my thinking is use onboard audio or plan to spend around $200 for best sound card..those mid-range cards are not that quite good either

I just got rid of my Audigy 2 for an ASUS Xonar Essence STX - could not have made a better decision. My Sennheiser hd 380 pro suddenly sound as if I just got a new set of headphones, because holyshit.

Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

That audigy is set to 48/16 by defaults

If I swith to 96khz or 24 I can't hear any difference but on 44.1 I get consistent noise. Just returned to default options. Still not sure if it's better than realtek. Can't really hear any difference Razz It is just louder (audigy) but have crappy control panel

Well if you can't hear a difference and don't like the control panel, don't use it.

At least Realtek updates their drivers regulary. Creative drivers are shit and Realtek 88x series is lightyears ahead of integrated codecs from five years ago, so unless you hear some noticeable noise on it (which means the motherboard is shit, with bad capacitor filtering and lame routing), stick with Realtek.

I don't recommend sound cards to anyone when people could go the reciever route for almost the same price for superior sound. I'm even in the process of helping Epsilon shop for sound equipment for his computer as well.

Unfrotunatly the sound card market is slim and most of the brands out are all marketing and the unfortunate big shadow of them all is Creative which is by far the worst possible brand you could buy.

There's 2 brands that are the top of that market but don't waste their money on over marketing their hardware. Avoid any sound cards using the chips from creative and realtek. Look for ones using the C-Media chip.

First and foremost the best of the best

HT Omega

They do have a more affordable one called the striker which sounds great. I put one in my brothers computer since he's a music nut and needed something affordable but with clarity.

Next in line and last as well is Auzentech. I actually found out about this brand from Epsilon that he used while working with audio. Again, look for ones using C-Media.

Auzentech

I referred affordable to the "striker" model from HT Omega which is less than 100 bucks. I got my brothers on sale for 70 I think it was.

Crock has been talking to me on steam for over a week wanting good audio equipment. As with all things in life, you get what you pay for. As of now I'm informing him of options and things to look into. When he can give me a budget to work with, he'll get the best equipment I can hook him up with for his budget.

Btw... since I've switched back to using my onboard realtek, which seems a bit better than audigyse, let me ask two questions which I had for years.

First of all - I disabled full-range speakers as SpykeZ explained to me that my satelites and new headphones both aren't full-range (poor SpykeZ he almost got a headache) but some questions remain... only questions about realtek that is.

So - I could never get front panel to detect my headphones. Front panel works (it is in ac97 setting in bios, hd setting don't work at all) and I get the same sound from it when I connect my headphones as I would get from back.
The problem is that if my headphones are not detected, realtek cp is not switching itself to "headphones" setting. I have to turn of speakers myself or they would still be playing.
That is not a problem ofc. The point is that there is no option to turn it from "stereo" to "headphones" setting in realtek cp. There is only stereo, 5.1 and 5.1 settings to choose from even when my heapdhones are connected etc.

I guess that using "stereo speakers" setting when using stereo headphones gives the same resoults right ? it sounds right if You ask me. i just like to check

Stereo = 2 speakers so yes, same thing. Also, you can change that setting in windows 7.

Right click speaker on bottom right > playback device > select default sound device > configure
