Am chilling at a hotel near Viareggio and forte del marmi. What's with the private beaches that cost 20 euros a day to use? Why don't hotels have their own beaches? Why is the nearest public beach 40 minutes away? I blame ixigia and/or berlusconi

lol! Yeah that is definitely a famous problem in that zone. I've been in Viareggio only a couple of times, but there should be several public beaches as soon as you leave the towns/populated areas.
That was 5-6 years ago though, I don't know if the situation has gotten even worse..
edit: it's also one of the reasons why I prefer the Maremma/Argentario

I used to pour water on myself while in shorts and go to pools saying "I just got out to meet someone I'm back now"

If my wife and sis-in-law get some time off from work we'll be heading to Campiglia Marittima for a week at the beginning of September

So any places in tuscany that you can suggest where I won't get robbed if I try to get a pizza or similar and that taste good
Also places worth visiting. I remember that Sienna was nice, also Volterra and San Gimignano.. Would it be worth to also make a trip to Livorno or Firenze?

Nice Pumpy! Unfortunately I'm not familiar with that part of the coast (I usually go to Giglio/Castiglione della Pescaia), but you must definitely visit Firenze, it's really a fantastic city. Livorno is..so-so imo, but I don't know it too well
If you're near Livorno though, I think the Elba island (or even Giglio itself) should be an interesting trip as well, it's only ~1 hour of ferry from there and the beaches are damn beautiful.
As for the "big" cities, Lucca is pretty cool, with all the medieval atmosphere. Pisa is famous as well, but mostly for the leaning tower (there isn't much to see apart from that to be honest). Another small town that I would recommend is Pienza, but it's quite far from where you are. Same for Montalcino and Montepulciano, both famous for the fine (and expensive xD) wines

Distance is no problem. We'll drive by car and if my fiat brakes down it should be in good hands no?
And if we drive 1200 til italy we can also drive 100km to a nice city

The hotel we are looking at offers free bikes for the duration of stay. If that is the case then we'll have a lot of fun... or will we die?

I'd say it's all good, you shouldn't worry. Italy is facing a decadent era, but we're not Africa yet
(just stay near the coast, since the minor streets away from the sea have lots of curves and can be a bit dangerous for cyclists )
