If you guys haven't tried it, it's the perfect opportunity now. Previously it was really hard/impossible to get the game working on Win7/Vista so many of you might have skipped it even if it was recommended.

It's a great RPG by Ion Storm, and one of my favorite games.

Quote:
You will travel through galaxies, explore bizarre planets, and journey through space and time. There are no easy choices in this game, no obvious, predictable events, no black and white characters. This complexity made the game well reviewed--it has showed up on PC Gamer's Top 100 PC Games list three times!--and will keep you fascinated and amazed for many hours.

I played it some time ago, compatibility (as noted above.) was a real problem however so I never got very far even though I liked the game, they were using the same game engine as Quake 2 no? quite impressive too. Smile
(IDTech2?)

EDIT: Quake III, it was probably the third one.
(EDIT: Ah so it seems it was IDTech2 after all, I got a bit uncertain when I saw the images from the GoG website, quite a overhaul they did.)

I absolutely love Anachronox. Finished it on my let's call it second playthrough due to the fact that it was inbalanced in terms of number of battles and noncombat content in favor of the latter so you could not level properly.
And man I love the scene and music when you meet Stiletto. I still have her theme on disc and listen to it from time to time.

 Spoiler:

It was Quake 2 Engine.

Ha ha, I wouldn't be surprised if it's already available in one of those GoG packs that have started appearing, latest one I know about is ~300 GB and is from mid-February if I remember properly.
(Not that there's many who would need the entire pack I guess, really helpful for ratio though on those private sites.)

But Anachronox itself is not hard to acquire though I wouldn't know if it would be the same as this version just by adding the official and fan-made patches, sometimes the GoG team does some additional work if possible. Smile
(Older titles is a bit more difficult and usually get a DOSBox treatment but newer works take advantage of fan patches and if available source code for further fixes, Arx Fatalis saw the developers help out a bit with that 1.21 patch for example.)

Anyway I'll probably buy it, it is a good game and supporting Good Old Games isn't wrong either, more of these classical games made available would be nice but they're doing very well by now, numerous publishers working with them and more titles near monthly. Smile

This game needs some HR mods so bad. It's also unfinished, leaves you saddened in the end.

Aye, agreed. There's not even a widescreen fix for it, forcing WS crops the bottom UI off making the game impossible to play. Heh, in regards to the story, the main writer has said/joked in 2010 that if nothing happens with Anachronox 2 within the next 10 years, he'll put the rest of the story on the internet as text Razz

They can even use the original and extend on it, no need to start an entirely new game. I'd pay for it.

Shenmue is dead and buried.. Sega overextended themselves with the "7 chapters!!" bullshit. It took a platform change before we even got Shenmue 2 in English, that's how little they cared. Such a damned shame Sad I play Yakuza and all I see is Shenmue... without the Shenmue Sad

Actually there's still hope Sabin, a lot of Rumors have been spreading around Japanese magazines about Sega's next unannounced AAA+ title thats NOT yakuza.

And also lately Yu Suzuki has been talking a lot about shenmue in a lot interviews. Sega has gone through two or three? Owners since the Shenmue debacle. I mean hell, the game did cost 70 million to make, or from what we are told.

so its still a possibility IMO. Yu Suzuki said sega still gets fan letters from around the world, and they take it "Seriously" seeing how much people support shenmue.

Sometimes I have hope but sometimes I know it's worthless and painful to continue hoping for something that may simply never happen. As Mal said;

True that, all I know is Yu Suzuki did return to Sega in 2011 to make games. But from what I've read hes working on a Kinect Fighting game anyways.

Back on Topic, I just bought Anachronox off GoG, need a good game to play after that Ass Effect. Haven't played Aanchronox in years.

they added open gl extension fixes, and eax fixes from what is ee in the gog forums.

but yeah, the original 2disc version + the unoffficial patch 46 and a little bit of nvida inspectro fiddling always worked for me.

Still would love to test out the gog version once I actually find it somewhere. hasn't appeared anywhere yet from where i've looked.

Actually it's the Quake 2 engine - but yeah, it rules hard. For $6 it's well worth buying, apparently as they've also bundled the fan (and unofficial-but-made-by-ex-devs) patches too.
