Yes, Adobe Acrobat isn't free, but most powerfull pdf editor I've seen. (This may because Adobe is the creator of the Portble Document Format ). It can either convert pdfs to some other useful editable file formats, including MS Word or can directly edit them. I have used some simplified programs to rip or convert pdfs but none have satisfied me like the Acrobat. In your situation, only solution seems to be the Adobe Acrobat in my opinion.
