Classified: France ‘44 is a new turn-based strategy game, set in World War II during the desperate months leading up to the Allied invasion of France in June 1944.
Take charge of a special-ops team of Allied commandos and French resistance fighters. Recruit elite operatives to build your squad, then engage in a sweeping campaign of sabotage and destruction. Deal with competing factions to build the resistance network and strike at German targets deep in occupied territory. However, the more chaos you cause, the more you’ll draw the merciless attention of the Gestapo secret police.
In exciting missions inspired by the exploits of the Allies and French, the game expands on turn-based tactical concepts, bringing authentic World War 2 combat to life. The campaign allows for multiple playthroughs that are different each time. For those who really want to test their skills, our rich Mission Creator tool allows players to create, share and download custom missions.
This looks like it might be great. Thanks for the heads up!

Nice a pre release Yarrr, like the good old days.
Now if only the hump would give it's solid opinion in 3-4 comments about this game, life is good again.
Xcom mechanics (the newer ones)
No destructible environments
Brb gotta install Silent Storm again!
I presume 2K licensed whatever they used for X-Com given how many clones have been released. Agree much prefer the older systems (silent storm or original x-com), fortunately original x-com has a shitload of competent mods.
I don't hate the nu-xcom system, its just dumbed down and early game RNG sucks, still might be worth a look.

Right? Like the early 2000's where we'd commonly see movie screeners months before theatrical release. This brought me a little joy for once.
Will post thoughts in a couple of hours.
Edit: Wasn't Early. Overlord Edition of the game launches today, not the 5th. No magical inside source.

Americans had very very little contact with the resistance in France, it was mainly Britain and other Europeans providing them with guns etc, but of course according to this 'historically' accurate game the Yanks saved the day once again

Haven't tried the game, but just looking at the screenshots there are multiple nationalities in the game. Also Americans were absolutely present in France (e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Jedburgh)
You have a campaign map that consists of French provinces that you unlock by doing missions. You have 2/3 missions available each time, that allow you to get XP, new members and ressources (basically cash).
XP is simple: your guys like in XCom are separated by classes restricting them to a weapon. You have a tree, and you unlock abilities. All seem samy and bland.
Cash: You have 3 "factions" whose relations you have to manage, they act like shops. One like you better? They sell you better and better stuff.
That's pretty much it. Soldiers don't carry over injuries nor status (those don't exist) nor need to heal. If they finish a mission alive, they're brand new again.
Now, the game itself: It's stevia XCom, expect it revolves on a health and morale bar.
The morale bar drops everytime a unit is shot at, even if it misses. A non-fatal hit lowers the bar faster. Bring the moral down and he's as good as dead.
You move on a square-based map.You either have no, half or full cover. Nothing is destructible.
AI is dogshit.
It's ugly and the animations clunky, janky and look stupid ie:
You ask your dude to move to stab a guy. He takes a stupid path, start dancing the macarena then arterfacts into what looks an Aztec ritual sacrifice.
TL;DR: mmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhh. 2006 game in looks and feel. And maybe I'm generous.
2/10.
Uninspired, and I don't see this becoming anything cool at any point (updates, mods, etc).

What he said. Too janky, shitty UI, godawful everything more or less. Also, bodies just disappear when you stealth kill them - like literally vanish before your eyes.
If you want to scratch your itch for this game you're better off playing either:
Phantom Doctrine - 1980's cold war US vs USSR spy setting. Two unique campaigns, with Russian one being entirely voiced in Russian (with subs).
Expeditions: Rome - Name says it all. Great story, voice work, combat mechanics etc.
I mention those two as they're recent but not very well known - everybody's always too busy jizzing in their pants over the absolute cheating filled overrated slog that is the modern XCOM.
Man, this was so disappointing.

I am newbie in strategy games, and cant handle rts...so tbs is god for me
I like the theme and setting of this game and easy accesbility. Camera is annoying, so you cant adjust like you wish...using keys to move is ok, but some other games like coh3(??) use it more wisely, and with mouse!..disappearing bodies is just ridiculous..and ai seems stupid as it is...but for newbie, good game to start your journey to strategy games. So 8/10 from me... Sorry if I annoyed you, wiser strategy mens and womens...

Those 2 are excellent games! Showgunners and Hardwest 2 are very good too.
@Client: you should give these a try. They're all turn based too.
Still gonna give this one a go, as I like the setting
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

Well no, if soldiers get downed during a mission, they'll have to skip next mission to heal. There's also fatigue mechanic, that lowers your action points when soldiers participate in too many missions after each other. So you have to rotate.
Game's not that bad, I think.

I hate that every game now has this.. pointless unlocking RpG1!!
Most tactical squad based RPGs do this, actually (Rome, Showgunners, ...)
The graphics are nothing to write home about, but played some more (until 2 am ), game's fun. I would recommend it if you like the genre (just not for the price asked, try the isodemo first or get it on sale)

That takes me back.. that game had an impressive physics/bullet ricochet engine. I remember it used to crash my PC all the time if bullets ricocheted too many times
